The patterns in the slice are very interesting. 4 smaller molds now Beth for more variety. May even do 8 smaller molds, I just need 6 inches in X or Y direction. The smaller molds are fun, the big ones a bit repetitive and monotonous for OCD brains. One thing for sure, you could have a brick library to 'saw' from to mix up your sales offerings. That heavy file cabinet with 9 drawers is the cat's meow for storing 2KG bottles of frit. Like 45 colors in powder/fine/medium/large for each color. It holds 96 jars, puts a dent in organizing. In spectrum order, purple at top down to red at bottom.

jamesp Those Knappers are doing some outstanding work. For my tastes I would prefer pieces that have more solid color without any clear areas which seems to hide some of the detail.

ETA - Those would make some awesome killer pendants (perhaps even literally)!

A wide spectrum of what is pretty for one is ugly to another.
Now you need to build a new saw with stacked blades to slice up a brick in a single pass.

jamesp Richardsons ranch makes "crystal balls" out of a fused quartz stuff that is more like glass, not nearly as hard as the reject semiconductor pieces I slice for opal caps. Spheres should be possible. Is a kiln with a vacuum chamber a thing? In the rubber industry we sometimes use vacuum bags inside of pressurized steam retorts, but obviously at way lower temperatures.

Yep getting tired of seeing beauty Those might be my favorite, love the clear with swirls oflashes of color Those are easy, melted scrap chunks from the glass blower Allison. Virtually a throw away glass as far as fuse artists are concerned since it does not fuse polish well. No need for fuse polishing if the nappers are going to nap it. Hard as a brick bat(Mom used to say that). About my head. What is a brick bat ?

I could trade slabs for finished spears and probably sell those spears as pendants at substantial profit Robin. Like make some real killer slabs more appropriate for jewelry in color and pattern. They are sharp mind you.

A brickbat was a brick used as a weapon Stuff it into a sock and beat someone with it I can see where these would appeal to the ladies and agree with Robin that they would make killer pendants

Yes, glass makes good spheres. Polishes easily in 20-30 minutes on the sphere machine.

I dug into the bubble pressure situation. A) plate glass is easy. Let the molten glass waterfall in a thin layer on a sea of liquid tin. All bubbles escape before cooling. B) block and chunks with bubbles seem to be full of water. This H 2O is released chemically. C) pressure from tumbling obsidian/glass seems to be from the same reasons.

A wide spectrum of what is pretty for one is ugly to another. Now you need to build a new saw with stacked blades to slice up a brick in a single pass. Same principle we used for the lath mill. Cut 6 pieces of lath at once. 4 blades. Bet you could build one. Would there be more waste cutting this way?
