Electroplated is a single diamond/nickle layer plated to metal outer ring. Sintered wheels have diamond mixture in a usually brass colored matrix similar to the cutting rim on a 303C blade. Thickness varies with brand but usually around 3mm to 3.5mm thick. My commercial customers get 2-3 months life from Chinese plated, up to a year DP Galaxy and I've seen 5 year old sintered wheels still going strong. The concept of "over priced" has to consider longevity and value. Cheap is not always best value. I have a commercial cutter that uses exclusively the Sacchi wheels from I think India. He buys them from the guy when he is at Tucson. He says they work great, wear out pretty fast but a good value at a very low price. He has employees that can destroy any wheel he buys though.

Thanks for the answer John @johnsgems. Are DP Galaxy sintered? I got a hard wheel from Johnson Brothers. I can't say I am happy with it and it definitely is not going to last like the DPs do. Not worth the savings.... and it doesn't fit right either. I had to jury rig it.
The LT seller promptly emailed me back with some answers:
We offer 3 types of soft wheels:
1. Standard soft- mostly used wheels
2. CABSTON - it is another line of standard soft wheels, but have bigger and more even diamond resin layer.
3. Premium REZ - these are the best longest lasting wheels, so called commercial grade. But they need break in period before usage. I will send break in instructions in the another message to you.
Hard wheels on sale is just our older stock, which we try to get rid of. We never receives any negative feedback about them, just positive opinions.
Delivery to the USA is usually around 2 weeks.
Premium REZ 6" wheels are available in grits: 60, 140, 280, 600, 1200, 3000, 8000, 14000, 50000

Galaxy wheels are not sintered. I don't think DP makes any sintered. Inland, Novosint, MoHan (Lapidary Tools from China) make them. Inland wants about $400 for an 8" sintered. MoHan is about $300. I've had my 60 grit 8" sintered from MoHan for about 7 years. It started with 5mm of diamond. I'm "down" to about 4.75mm. Lynn

Sounds like they are.

Will also be interested in your reviews of these wheels. They'd be great to try on the old arbor I just put the aquarium pump on.

Crazy, what the cost of that devil? What is the grit. I too am waiting for the break in. I got the 80 grit to try. It was..... drum roll please..... a whopping 66.00- new. (10 shipping) I should be able to get the new wheels on tomorrow. I don't need the 80, yet, but I'm dying to try it. I got a 600 "nova", too. That I do need. It looks like a decent wheel. 50.00 Eventually, I want an 80 grit sintered wheel. I'll be talking to them about it.

A friend got this set of wheels a couple years ago, he recommended it to me. I finally got fed up with my wheels that came from graves which could take an hour+ to make a cab (remove scratches). the graves set i made about 70 cabs. this new set i made at least 70 cabs already and the wheels are still great. Way faster than typical cabbing wheels (including novas) anyway heres a link, i highly recommend these. they have ones just for the 4 soft wheels and all sorts of different stuff also but this is the only complete set. They do have a standard nova type for less but i like these the most. Just watch your fingers, the points are very long and hurt when new, after break in dont catch your fingernail on one though! www.ebay.com/itm/TOP-6-set-pcs-6-SOFT-PREMIUM-lapidary-diamond-resin-polishing-wheels-nova-rez-/253255394205Definitely want to dop (or nail with superglue) when breaking in new wheels. Also, another trick our shop steward taught us at the club: use your hardest cabs for the break-in. It'll speed the break-in, and the scratch removal from those stones. Bring on the Oregon jaspers!

Well, like the Johnson Bros wheels, this one is not thick enough in the middle for the genie. DH is on a wild goose chase trying to find a couple washers. If all else fails, I'll cut some pvc as a spacer. Any other suggestions?

BAD NEWS!
I can't use the 80 grit. Gene HATES it! It is horribly off balance. Man, I didn't know what off balance was till I turned it off. I thought it was gonna take off!
So, it is either off balance, which I tried to help to no avail, or it might be too heavy, which I doubt. Took 3 washers, too. It was about 4mm off. It's not the "nova" wheel I got. I put the old wheel on and it was fine with the new "nova."
I have not had this problem before. Is there something I'm missing or is it the wheel?
I'm open to suggestions. I'll wait to hear from you experts and then contact the seller.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!
The seller immediately responded and will be sending me a new wheel. I will report on it after it arrives and I install it. The other wheel looks well made and very aggressively 80 grit. I wanted to love it. I'm very happy with the seller. I hope to love the new wheel.

Bummer about the balance of the first one. I've run into that with "other" brand wheels too. Thought about trying to balance one like a tire, but that would take more time and trouble than it's worth.
Hope your replacement works for you - maybe they'll take the extra time to check it since there was a problem with the first one.

If all else fails, I'll cut some pvc as a spacer. Any other suggestions? Your machine should have had extra spacers for that reason. I had mine looking like that with original space settings but had to alter the layout and use a combo of the spares mine came with.
