WoW, sounds like a totally awesome idea but I'm afraid I wouldn't be much help. The only thing I know how to do is html in notepad and a little CSS. I know nothing about sql, php or mySQL or any of that stuff. I'm sorry Cher

These are the options available to me on the hosting front. Windows is free in every respect, but the linux stuff is chargeable. Check over the summary below. 1. Windows 2003 Featuring IIS6, the latest version of the reliable Microsoft web server software. Pick the stable, world leading operating system and create dynamic, exciting websites with PHP, Perl and CGI scripts. You can also enable ASP and ASP.NET for a small additional fee. Hosting this domain on Windows 2003 is FREE. 2. Linux Running the reliable combination of Red Hat Enterprise Server and Apache's httpd web server. Choose Linux if your website requires SSH secure shell access or PHP scripting. Hosting this domain on Linux is £10.00 GBP + VAT per year. www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/linux/linuxstandard/Full details of their "upsells" are at the url above, it may not be any use after all. Check it out anyways - just something in the pot. NO POST HOGGING.

Sorry for hogging your idea Llana My server is capable of handling the load and traffic...and I know I can do the coding necessary to make it work for even those who are "geek/puter" challenged. Will let everyone digest the idea...and maybe get some feedback from others who might be interested. So far: Llana Sandman Emerald Cookie Rocky Anyone else? (6-7 is the magic number to keep the initial costs the lowest)

SELL ME

Rosebud, I charge 19.95 a month for hosting a domain....this helps me pay for leasing the server. With so few on the server, it's not like I'm making a killing on it. We get a 99.9% guaranteed uptime for the server. 24/7 customer support. I rarely have the server go down. They're based in Florida. I actually expected the server to go down quite a bit with all the hurricanes we had this past summer, but surprisingly enough, I caught the server going down only once for about 10 minutes!
The only other cost is buying a domain. Most price breaks are around 3-5 years. If I registered it at Network Solutions, it would run $74.97. For 5 years, $99.95.
For Eight People - per person cost would be $12.50 (just for registering the domain for 5 years)
or
For Eight People - per person cost would be $9.37 (just for registering the domain for 3 years)
Plus
Six months of domain hosting per person: $15.00 (That's 2.50 x 6 months per person) Each person would have to pay this ONCE every six months. If someone bails, this price would go up to make up the difference.
In a nutshell - if we have 8 people to do this: Initial startup per person would be: $27.50 (This includes 5 years domain registration and 6 months of hosting)
In six months each of the 8 people involved would need to cut me a check for $15.00 to pay for another 6 months of hosting.
Total cash investment per person would be $42.50 for the first year. 2nd year would be $30.00.
Sometimes, it's easier to pay for the year entirely....instead of cutting a check every 6 months. Not worth billing $2.50 monthly... this would be annoying for everyone.
Make sense?

Yup, makes sense. What's amazing is the first domain I bought (from Network Solutions) cost me $80 for one year, nice how they've gone down. I've got two domains so have space to store my own stuff at as far as pics go.

Cool Cher...we actually should have plenty of space on the server. Maybe if you would like to do a picture gallery, you could do the html and link it to your store.
I'll do up a template for everyone to look at over the next week or so. I would likely handle different looks with css. Makes it easier. All we do is modify the look by editing one file. (*warning geek talk again*)

nice sandsman, i see you put up some new auctions. I like the new background, but once again, i must critique. for some of the cabs that are lighter in color, i would use a darker background to make them stand out more. i noticed that they kinda blend in with the quartz background. you already even have a bid on one and there is about a week left! for others to see: search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQsassZsandsman1calsQQsosortorderZ1QQsosortpropertyZ1

Hi John. I looked at your current batch on eBay. Those are great stones! I agree that the crystal background adds class, a little light for a couple of the stones, but you already said how you will fix that! I think you're doing a great job! Are you happy with how it is going so far?

yeah that looks better, but once again i am being picky. If there is anyway to take the glare off the right side or the pic, i think it would show the colors of the cab a bit better. sorry for always telling you to do things differently
