Your wrangler is an elf; you can tell by his cute elfin shoes. Elves make good dog dog catchers. Apparently : ) Hello Pat, Happy Sunday. Well, I am sorry to say this but Elves, Goblins and Fairies, ( the Walt Disney Tinker-bell Type) are of European Origin. Elves do not exist in China and that's where Mr Wrangler came from, Shanghai actually. The shoes he is wearing are traditional Qing Dynasty style from the 14th. Century. Here is an example of the shoes. The image is lifted from a porcelain rendition of the famous 108 Chinese Generals that were bandits and because they saved the Emperor during a battle, were made immortals. Cheers, johnw

Zoo's open, Hippos wanted front and center, followed by junior Hippos girl friend. His girl friend needs a bit of an explanation. A while back we had an open area movie for the residents after the Zoo closed for the evening, we showed the Abyss. The Hippos immediately wanted the water image that went thru the drill rig. Well, what could I do. I got a crystal Hippo instead, Junior thinks it's an aberration. Anyway, here they are............ The Hippos. Ms. Hippo and her Son, Junior. Junior. Juniors girl friend Family Picture. Bye......Now here come the Bears....... This big guy weighs in at 3#10oz and is 7"x3.5"x5" Small but heavy, weights in at 2# Here are the Bears..........finally. We had a difficult time rounding up all the small bears. Anyway, finally, all together. Cheers, johnw Hold on.... Well, there is one more image , the second most famous resident of the Zoo. I was going to start tomorrow, but, by popular vote, the residents of his compound insisted I do a single full "side on" picture to-day.............so here you go........... scroll down. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *The White Stallion, in all his glory.
The stone carvers in China's lapidary school in Shanghai certainly knew how to bring out the alpha male attitude in this piece of jade......Cheers,

Not sure I had finished with downloading when you first opened the post. Anyway, thanks for the compliment and I hope you are satisfied with the Stallion, arguably the guy is gorgeous. If you can say that about a stone. But, the best has yet to come, Mr Rhino, he is without a doubt the "Star of the Zoo." Next few days, promise. Cheers, johnw

He is gorgeous Hi alikat218, I kinda thought you did not see the final posting. Anyway he is a handsome fellow for sure and he is well aware he turns heads. He has in his contract I must take several heads shots, an over the shoulder look and several of random poses which I will post later this evening, but first I must show the images of his "ladies" being very rambunctious mares captured in a full gallop pose by the carver of the piece. I'll explain that with the image. In addition, he has asked for his friend the old Chinese War Horse to be featured along with the two junior pinto Tang war hoses, being one stallion, and one mare. Plus a couple of smaller ponies. I am guessing he is doing this because he wants the photo op of the residents of the Zoo Horse Compound to start and end with him. I think they call it vanity, but from where I sit, it's well deserved. Hope you enjoy it. Cheers, johnw

Zoo's open. This is a continuation of the Horse Compound and its residents. First image is of two mares galloping freely. The carver did a phenomenal job when you consider the finished Bowenite piece weighs in at 4 pounds and dimensions are 10.5" long 3.25" wide x 7" high. The original Bowenite bolder must have been huge. The intricacy of the main and tail is what blew me away when I first saw it and the carver captures the entire motion with great skill. MTCW. This image is of the typical Chinese Tang War Horse. These horses were huge in real life. Material is Bowenite Two "Pinto" Tang junior war horses. The bigger one is the Stallion, the smaller the mare. Material is Agate. Two small war horses. Made of Bowenite. Finally, the Horse Compound proudly presents the second most popular resident of the Zoo. The White Stallion Clearly an Alpha Male Stallion with Attitude.
The next images are of residents of the Elephant Compound, being, two Pygmy Elephants escorted by the Zoo's second wrangler, plus a newcomer to the Zoo, a White Elephant
The White Elephant. The material is Howlite and he measures 4" long x 2.5" wide x 5" high That's it for a while, we have to prepare the Zoo for the Grand Finale being the Rhinos. The warm up crew for this event will be the residents from the Amphibian (Frog) Section of the Zoo and Turtles and Tortoise from the Reptile Section. We are expecting a big crowd so our Guard Dogs will be patrolling the various areas. Cheers, johnw

The horses are fantastic! Thank you for sharing those Did you know that they were believed to be Ferghana horses which actually sweated blood due to a parasite (worm) Not much is documented on thier breeding. Cant remeber who renamed them "Heavenly" horses.

Thank you for saying that fernwood. It's a bit of a change from the "what do you see in a stone" thread. My next project is" Big Crazy's Pastry Shop Collection" and I am jazzed at the prospect of displaying Laguna Lace Pastry's ...........Here is a sampler, however is for viewing only since it'll bust your teeth if you try to bite into it. This is a custard creme slice. It's custard creme over a thin layer of raspberry with a finely chopped nut base. The custard is covered by a thin layer of marzipan and creme, layered with crushed strawberries and topped with icing sugar. Truly a mouth watering visual delight. The Sentient Beings in Chihuahua certainly knew how to make pastry's and how to preserve them in a manner so we, in the twenty-first century, could enjoy something that was made over 65 million years ago, yummy. Cheers, johnw P.S. I guess this is an extension of "what do you see in a stone," cuz, I see a Pastry. Look but don't touch. P.P.S. Sorry for the commercial interruption, now back to the Zoo.

Hi Pat, I heard your shout and I have some good news for you. Seems I have made an error when I said Fairies were only European. I did some checking and it is so that Fairies did exist in Chine, in mythology. Here is what I found. BTW please excuse the detail but it justifies your original concept that Elves, and their kind, including 'Fairies" make good dog catchers. So you are vindicated. "Of the myriad deities worshipped by the Chinese people, some were largely the works of imagination to enrich popular literature for the great masses. Among them, the Eight Fairies were most popular. For ages, they have been favorite subjects of fiction, theatricals and folklore. For Chinese ceramic art, embroideries, brush paintings and wood-cuttings, they provide interesting theme and motif. According to Chinese tradition, the Eight Fairies were human-beings who had achieved immortality through constant practice of esoteric discipline. They were represented in Chinese arts and fiction with such life-like characters that they had the same artistic appeal for the Chinese people as Santa Claus and "the Seven Dwarfs" in "Snow White" for Westerners." That being said, I have found one of the "EIght Fairies" from the 108 Chinese Generals porcelain picture. Here he is in his glory. Can't say he look like a bandit, but you gotta love his "outfit and the hat". Cheers, johnw He is wearing the correct shoes for the time. Fairy Shoes........ Cheers,
