The whole still !!?? That's amazing snuffy. Were you aware of his reputation as a shiner ? Had to be easy to know whom is making moonshine back in the old days in these hills. Follow the corn. Had to be grown in those small valleys close by. Finding the stills is another story. Easy to hide a 747 in those hills excepting modern satellite. Moonshine runners learned to modify cars to run faster than the sheriff's. I believe Nascar was started by the moonshiners with their clever mechanical skills. He made it for his personal use.Interesting story: My Mom and Dad were neighbors on adjoining farms. One day my Dad took a shortcut through the woods to see her,and came upon Granpa cooking away. All in the family !! Nothing like the perfect in-laws out-laws snuffy !!

Lucky dog! Did Obama set it up so it is subsidized forever, too?
In this case (for personal gain) I hope so. Am sick and tired of ATT's service. I am getting quotes on 1500 feet of RG-11 coaxial cable to string down to my home since ATT is not interested in replacing the 32 year old existing cable. There is 9 power poles carrying the line to the house. By gosh I will climb every pole and string the wire on to the existing cable myself if I have to. One internet provider said they would run a cable for $15,000. 1500 feet of RG-11 costs about $500. I'll rent a boom truck and run it myself grrrr Rent a Cable Plow and go underground!

Those things are efficient. My cousin is visiting and owned an internet server and showed me some ATT analysis apps that revealed proof of poor cable performance. I think visiting a lawyer armed with this data is my best route.

I always try to make a business venture in recreational fields like fire pits, vacation property, ornamental plants, etc. Might as well work in a fun environment. So, I was thinking about modifying my Toyota Tundra into a reliable off-road/street friendly machine for the plethora fine mountain trails. Perhaps several for resale to recuperate investment. A generation 1 Tundra 2000 to 2006 has been considered one of the most reliable pick up trucks ever built. captbob - your's is in fine condition, treated you well ? I have owned one for 19 years and had no issues w/it for 340,000 miles. So, I will use this model truck for a base project for installing modifications like lift kit, welded winch bumper, welded bed, big tires, etc. I bought another used one, a 2006 with low miles and a real cream puff to take over duties of my old truck. Plans are to use a mild lift kit that will not increase angulation on the drive shaft and front axles and open fender wells to accept large tires. The large tires will do the lifting for ground clearance while maintaining the stock suspension geometry. A 2 inch lift kit located in Chattanooga for $280 A welded tube witch bumper out of Wyoming for $780. A set of 33 inch 275/78/16 off road tires to start with off of EBAY for $700. I will weld up a shorter bed. Local mechanic can install the stuff. If all works out I may repeat the build and start selling them. The biggest problem is finding 2000 to 2006 4WD Tundra's because they are in high demand. Atlanta is a big vehicle auction hub so they are fairly common here. Old truck with 340k miles New purchase, 2006 model with 128k miles for $14k. Had to be garaged, even the muffler has no rust. A Gentleman George truck. target vehicle to look similar to this SR 5

Great conclusion. Glad your cousin knows these things. This is a screen shot of ATT's diagnostic site available to the public. It is the FEC errors that are directly related to bad cable connections/conductiviy quality, etc.

Love your Tundra idea. I love my 2000 Silverado. Late fiance had a 1992 Chevy pick up with over 400,000 miles on it. The truck is still at my old place. Mechanically sound, but a few body issues.
My Silverado needs minor work on brakes and a new battery. Hope to have it back running in less than 6 months. Has the towing package and a bedliner, topper. Some new body panels.
Ever consider a Silverado for this type of project?

jamesp, I have to ask the question again, "What in the heck are you doing with all of your free time?!!" or "Are there two of you?". One guy can't be doing all of this. All kidding aside, I suspect I speak for a lot of folks out here as we wait on what new project are you tackling next. You never fail to dis-appoint. Henry

Henry If one works 40 hours a week or 6 - 12 hour days two weeks/month on his own projects many things get accomplished Henry. Pace has a lot to do with doing stuff, work briskly and with focus with good planning. And do projects you are adept at. High work intensity is pleasant way to pass time. My cousin stayed over here a couple of days and talked my ear off making me totally exhausted lol. Love him like a brother but damn that boy won't shut up. My wife helps a bunch by supporting me. The dear wife can be a huge help if a good team can be arranged. Me and her have worked together for 30 years and can pretty much read each other's mind and head in the same direction regarding projects. Mind you we don't have kids/grandkids to enjoy, guessing that allows free time. And available labor helps when heavy jobs come up.

I bought my 1988 4-W Dodge Ram in 2005 for $1700. No idea on the mileage but it had been to Alaska and back by the previous owner before he died. I've never had a moments trouble with it over the years.

The paint keeps falling off. A spray can of white takes care of it for a couple of years.

50 years ago a friend of mine did all his mining with his pickup and a drag bucket - like this: Adjust the triple point for the desired digging angle. Forward and back, forward and back, move the wheels. You could scoop out Price Pond wherever you want on Price Creek right down to bedrock, and use the soil for your garden.

That shiny black paint job on this truck is useless to me. Yes, telling that the owner probably took great care of the truck though. Good mechanical reliability is all that counts on this hacienda. The 4.7 liter V8 in the Tundra is made by Lexus and is ridiculously complicated with computerization, fuel injection, 4 valves/cylinder, etc. But they are getting a million miles out of them without issue. Most of the used 4.7 liter Lexus SUV's around Atlanta are being sold off to Africa and Australia as safari and taxi vehicles.

Another way to go medieval on digging soil is to use a half century old Dearborn 2 disc turning plow. Those old school fellows knew how to make a dirt buster. Ponds can be dug with these monsters using a 40hp tractor. Can be pulled at high tractor speeds. evil Efficient digging machine.

The paint keeps it from rusting out.

A pickup dump bed is also handy.
