That cab is sweet! It's hypersthene, Ali. Check out the pix I posted of the rough. Easiest way to describe it is it's like black & white Labradorite. I've never seen hypersthene in person, I thought for sure it was obsidian It's crazy cool

MsAli I think that may be the hypersthene. It's beautiful! Good job on that video, too.
I knew he was gonna do a killer job on whatever he did

Thank you, I'm really pleased that you like it!!
I thought about choosing a shape with curves, but I thought that those strong diagonal stripes needed to rassled into a pen with straight lines.
This was my first time with hypersthene and, as I told Nate NDK , I found myself chasing what I referred to its "texture" and backing up a couple of grits a couple of times. Finally, after Nate's reply to me, I just accepted that its structure is the source of its irridescence.

Here's the one cab I cut from the hypersthene. you can see the "texture" a little in this view, but it's quite obvious in the 2nd picture.

I had a slab of it and didn't like that texture. I never felt like I was finishing it properly. It is a real cool stone, though. I liken it to chatoyant charcoal.

I'm actually glad you said that Tela, because I was wondering if I got a lower grade chunk when I bought it.

It looks like it should feel "rough" but doesn't if that makes sense.
I may one day get some just to try

I wont say what cab I did but I am pleased with it and I really hope Tommy likes it. "Tommy likes it" would be a gross understatement! I freaking love it Everyone - this young lady took a beautiful (and rare) piece of Morgan Hill poppy jasper and absolutely knocked it out of the park. The pattern capture is fantastic (mesmerizing) and the shine is perfection - better than I have been able to achieve on many piece of MH I've done. The shine and complete lack of scratches tells me that she worked her butt off on it, no question about it. Thank you Ali, you have raised the bar for all of us with this piece - for me especially.

Damn now I almost wish I'd have picked that instead. The 1 or 2 MH I've cut didn't polish worth a ding... Well done!
