I can't believe I haven't been on here since last Fairburn Friday post!!! I really like the tumbled look on those! I agree that those were prime candidates for a tumble!

Ok, so I missed another Friday. But I was able to get out for a bit yesterday and have a few pics to share... My favorite rockhounding partner. A nice one that my daughter's boyfriend found. My find for the day. And one my son found and cut. Mostly showing this one for jasoninsd who had a question for me. Nothing inside so it's getting cabbed now.

Nice pic of your partner! And nice finds for the weekend. I'm heading back out tomorrow...
You might have to keep that "potential" future son-in-law around if he's got a nose for Fairburns! Don't bury him just yet! LOL
I showed that Fairburn that I found to a friend of mine who seems to have a serious nose for Fairburns (he'd give you a run for your money on the finds at least! LOL He also has a seriously big 6 pound Fairburn). First thing he said when he looked at it was ,it looked to be just surface only. So it'll definitely sit for now. (Picture shoulder sag and a deep sigh right here! LOL)
That's gonna make a GREAT cab by the way!

And share that information with me! 😁

And share that information with me! 😁 Okay, so I sent a text to my friend and he finally responded last night. I asked him if there was something he saw in my agate that made him think it was surface only, other than the fact that it really does appear to be just on the surface. His response...to that specific question: "So surface agates is just as it sounds. But there is no indication that it goes all the way through. If it did there would be a window or sign on the back side." So, you know I'm not an expert...but I'm not necessarily in agreement with what he said. Oftentimes there IS banding further inside the stone, with NO indications whatsoever on the surface of the stone. So, unless there's an expert reading this who is willing to put their two cents in as to whether or not there really IS a way to ascertain whether an agate has further banding inside the stone by any kind of indication on the surface of the stone (and what are those indicators?), I'm going to have to just use one of my two cents and flip it to decide! (My best run-on sentence for awhile!)

(My best run-on sentence for awhile!) You're right. I don't think there are any guarantees. Oh and I have a friend that hunts fairburns. When he shows me a good one I ask where he found it (there's a few areas we hunt around here), he replies "On the ground. " 😐

I've been waiting 13 hours and 29 minutes for this post to show up! Holy smokes! I can see why that's one of your favorites! Amazing patterns all around. It has everything from the wide to the very miniscule patterning. Love it! Did you bake it in mineral oil?

Actually, I think this one was just posted wet- it's one I've put up on RTH before (of course). I've only done the mineral oil a few times and never really noticed enough of a difference to keep doing it. I also used to soak them in Iron Out for a few days. This sometimes produces noticeable results, sometimes doesn't. I should go back to doing that, I suppose, but I never seem to find the time. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it!
