Good eye, RickB! Kind of looks like evil Frosty the Snowman to me. I think I better start locking the display room door at night. That thing is creepy. Randy, it looks kind of like Chucky to me.

The variety of coprolites and rocks in general make them so appealing and what a simple pleasure to find beauty in stone. I just love the variety of color and contrast.

Randy, I think rockjunquie will change her mind about her most favorite coprolite when she spots these beauties. Thanks for purveying the poo.

I retrieved the mail today and had a surprise. Our resident flint knapping expert RickB sent me some points and here is a dandy he made from coprolite! Count me as super excited to add it to the poo collection. Thanks Rick, that was classy.

A while back somebody asked if I ever found petrified fungi on coprolites and I've often thought it was an entirely feasible idea because 1. We see plenty of fungi growing on modern wildlife dung, and 2. Algae is very well represented in the fossil record so why not fungi? With this in mind this specimen caught my eye. I have not arrived at any conclusions about it but it sure makes me wonder. What do you think and why?

FYI, the pattern near my thumb is not present on the right outside the photo.

I'd say that is authentic coprolite and if the colors are actually close to the photo, then it is a very nice and uncommon piece. In fact it is so nice I'd say we should designate it as the official specimen for todays TURD TUESDAY. Excellent color and contrast. I might have something similar, I'll have to go look.

The seller is in St. George, Utah. Maybe he collected it? It looks like there was a little photoshop going on, but still- it's a nice specimen.

Dang right it's impressive. At the top right corner I see a twig ghost cross section with another just below. Down a little lower, just at 4 o'clock from center are a couple more twig ghosts that are a darker color. I'd count myself lucky to have one that good in my collection, not only for it's beauty but also it's scientific value.
