I could look at prairie agates and jaspers all day long. I think they are becoming my favorite agates along with moss agates. That's a good idea you had to make a rock garden. You've inspired me :-)

You've inspired me :-) Would love to see some pics if you decide to do a garden. We have tons of smaller and "medium" sized prairie agates. Some are absolutely stunning. My wife and I are planning on going back out to the Buttes tomorrow. I'll see if I can get some good pics of some of the most beautiful smaller sized prairie agates when we get back home. (Hopefully some more amazing ones from tomorrow's adventure!) some really nice prairie agates in that batch Thanks! Hopefully some even better ones tomorrow!

I'll be sure to take pictures when I get a garden going. That's a bummer your trip got rained out. Thanks for the medium agate pictures. I think the darker striped ones are very cool.

They are some top Agates there, I can't wait to see what you do with them. There's nothing better than a trip where you can get out in the wilderness and find some good rocks.

My wife was pretty bummed out not being able to go...but I took the opportunity and did the work I was going to do on the house tomorrow, today...this way I get to go to the Buttes tomorrow! We've got some amazing smaller black/grey/white prairie agates. Ill get some pics of some of the better ones in the next day or so. We too find the darker ones some of the more beautiful! They are some top Agates there, I can't wait to see what you do with them. There's nothing better than a trip where you can get out in the wilderness and find some good rocks. I am finding being out at the Buttes to be very peaceful and allows for a ton of introspection...some people call it talking to themselves...I call it introspection! LOL

Weirdest thing. I went down to the gas station this morning and on the way back home my truck refused to turn back towards the house...it ended up taking me out to the Buttes...it was really odd! Must be an issue with the cruise control. Here's some pics since I had to be out there due to vehicle malfunction. First, is what part of the Buttes looks like if you haven't seen them...if you have seen them, then it still looks like this. Second, are a few finds from the day. One rock looks like a miniature version of Castle Greyskull! It looks like whatever other minerals were inside this vacated and left this shell. It looks like another rock is dino bone... probably not, but it sure looks like it. And finally, a wicked nice prairie agate and what looks like a lace or water agate. I posted some pics of horn corral in the other thread...

Those are some fine looking rocks! Sure is lucky that your truck malfunctioned isn't it I wonder if the Dino bone one is maybe a stromatolite piece? It kinda looks like one. The Buttes looks like it would be fun to hound in.

The Buttes looks like it would be fun to hound in. I'd have the truck looked at by a mechanic, but I'm ok with how it "malfunctions" sometimes! I'm really puzzled on that rock. It's also been suggested that it could be a conglomerate or potential corral "root". Today I went out to the Buttes with my wife - she suggested we go, but upon my endless talk last night about this "new place" I found yesterday. Admittedly, she was overwhelmed when we got out there. It's an area that has more rocks to look through than any other areas we've been to in the past. It's almost to the point of sensory overload...in a good way!

I know exactly what you mean. It happens to me at this place. It's a wash filled with Flint, quartz and agate. Found this cool little guy there. Polished him up and gave it to my friend as a palm stone.
