I think you've got a winner in that oval. Nice composition, I'd be hard pressed to ID that stone once finished. The bottom half looks a little iffy, hope it holds up for you. I got a little overzealous drawing that teardrop on there. As soon as I did, I saw the fracture line right below the oval...and it extends into the teardrop. I'll cut the oval out first, and look at what's left of the slab and will likely choose a different shape from the bottom portion. If I hadn't been the one to cut that prairie agate, there's no way I would have ID'd it as such! LOL The second cab may choose itself. (“ahem, freeform! Excuse me.”) But maybe you’ll get lucky, and it’ll be solid. Great-looking stuff, in any case.

(Kidding...it just gets set aside until I feel more confident about not having the training wheels of the stencil lines! LOL)

Hi, I'm glad to find this site. I'm kind of a casual rock hunter, relatively new to the hobby, but I've been interested for some time. Made a couple of trip to Fairburn Agate Beds with my family but just recently started to visit the Railroad Buttes area (a lot less travel and you don't have to cross a creek to get there!). Neat to see the photos of others finds. I hope to be able to post of my own soon and maybe get some help identifying some of the specimen. I just like getting outdoors and enjoying the fresh air and the thrill of discovering some neat rocks.

I definitely don't know a TON about Railroad Buttes, but I do go out there quite frequently! LOL - If you've got any questions, don't hesitate to ask. However, when it comes to rock identification, I'm horrible...unless it has holly leaf fortifications...then I know it's a Fairburn Agate! LOL

Absolutely! I'm sure you know not to drive out there if we've had rain or snow like we have the last couple days. It'll be nothing but slime in that gumbo mud. Four-wheel drive won't even help. I want to get out there, but I'm going to wait until at least the weekend...maybe even a few more days.

Now just waiting for everything to dry up and for my schedule to permit me to get away

Here's the cab I made from the rough pictured a little bit back in the thread. It turned out fan-freakin-tastic! LOL

Man, those slabs look awesome! I especially like that last one with all the blue/gray/yellow/red and orange... very cool! That a great pattern on that cab as well! Looks like you stay plenty busy.

I've been ordering quite a bit of rough from all over here recently because I have it stuck in my head there isn't a lot of cool stuff to slab and cab out here...but then I cut into stuff like this and am reminded that we in fact DO have some pretty cool material out here! LOL Most of the Prairie Agates don't have this type of patterning inside (like the slab above and the cab a little bit back). However, there are definitely some that DO! (Obviously! LOL) Thanks for the compliments... hopefully I'll have these cabbed up some time this week.

Good luck with the cutting, hopefully it's spectacular! If there is anything on the inside (I really don't think there's going to be...but I hope I'm wrong! LOL), then I'll post those pics in your Fairburn thread on Friday. I have several other pics to post there anyway.
