This is why I do not pass up on one that has a cap popped off. Richardson's.

It's well and truly Thursday in the eastern hemisphere, so thunderegg time. This piece of rainforest jasper (rhyolite) from Mt Hay, Qld Aus, has very distinctive small thundereggs in it. The top left thunderegg is approximately 17 mm (close to .75 inches?). The rock has been in 80 grit for many weeks and is shown wet.

Are those thundereggs or just orbs. Not overly familiar with the material

Wow! That is very interesting and the polish is great! The polish is water They can be hard to get a good, consistent shine on. And I may stuff that up.

Some of the orbs on this rock look dead spit of small thundereggs, and my understanding is they are small thundereggs that haven't eroded from the rhyolite matrix.

That's beautiful and interesting. Do you have more that you are working on? Sorry for the late reply. I didn't see this. I have a bunch of tumbler-sized rough rainforest jasper and it's slowly working through coarse grit. It's fun to see the patterns emerge. The small embedded thundereggs were a pleasant surprise.

I wish I had some of those. Those are the dream child of geode/agate/thunderegg goodness. 10,000/100 These come out of a bed my grandpa mined out years back. Was a relatively small deposit. Only ones left in existence are the small collection I have left and the small amount that has been sold by a guy I sold them to.

One is an absolute stunner That second one is the thing of dreams. No disrespect to the first one. To have one of these would be perfect. These look like an autumn forest after a flood the transparent quartz looking like water. Reminds me of nasa ariel photos of forests

Reminds me of nasa ariel photos of forests From what I found out they were pretty sought after as far as thundereggs go. A small batch got out like 20 years ago and people apparently really wanted them. I sold some that I had at the house and got a good chunk of money for them.

I think further back in this thread I have more posted. One has a white opal matrix with gold plumes in it. Dunno where it is, but page 20 has more and another super nice one.

I have been perusing the images. Most of them are picture perfect. Thats not to say the other thundereggs are slouching.
