Thanks for all the ‘likes’. Glad I could get one in on time. Everyone have a wonderful Christmas 🎄 I’m off to the kitchen to bake some pecan pies 🥧 Pecan pie?? Mmmmmmmm.... Wish I could send you a piece. Since I made two, we were able to dig into one of the pies last night. Now I have to go make the overnight breakfast casserole, the seafood gumbo, and potato salad for Christmas Day feast. Can you tell my mama was from Louisiana? I love cooking as well as playing with rocks.

And here's my entry. Not my best work by far, but it's what I ended up with. Unfortunately, I have no picture of the slab- which goes against the rules. If it knocks me out that's fine- I just wanted to share my little cab. And, might I add, doing small cabs kinda sucks!

Looks good to me, miket ! I wouldn't worry about lacking photo of the slabs. Those are just suggestions, or guidelines, not rules. Some folks still do not submit a side view photo, which is even more important than a before pic, if you ask me. ETA - And you are correct, small cabs suck. Cabbing such puts one's fingers in danger. Ouch!

miket - I don't know how you did this one handheld with the dremel! There's no way I could've maintained any grip pressure holding onto this little guy!

That pretty piece of candy looks good enough to eat (or put into a ring), Mike!

Just for fun!
This is one of the smallest cabs that I have done. You almost have to use a dop stick for tiny cabs, or risk your fingers.
Rock from the desert, some form of fossilized sea life. A clam, maybe?
Preform
Finished cab.
Size is under an inch by 3/4 inch. Posted this just to show you, it is not an entry. This cab is ineligible for the contest, as it was cut December 2018. I don't have a girdle shot, and can't take one since I can't find the cab, lol. So there you go!

You did that on a flat lap? I could NEVER. Good job! Cool cab, too.

Thanks, Tela rockjunquie . Yep, 8" Ameritool flat lap. I couldn't find the cab (but that's no surprise), I may have made a (Turks head) wire wrap ring with it. Then again, maybe not, since I would have taken a picture of it. Or, the cab is someplace I just haven't looked yet, lol. Maybe it'll turn up yet.

I was thinking of a cab I did a while back that I could have sworn I sold. Then, as I was going through my riker boxes, I "found" it in there. I don't know what I have or where it is.

I had to "like" this post, not just because I thought it was an amazing cab (and it really truly is!), but because I was talking with "Three-Finger-Larry" who really liked it. He used to be famous for making cabs this size...before he was called Three-Finger-Larry!!!

After scrounging through lots of material I finally had my hand on a wavy Botswana slabette. I was ready to go and then for some reason I decided to paw through one tray just one more time. That yielded an even smaller slab of a geometric looking, amber-colored agate that pushed the other slab out of the nest.
I roughed it out on the lap with some crude hand-faceting knowing that the planes and dome would be rounded.
The cab is 25.2 x 16.1 x 5.5 mm.

Ring size cabochons are certainly not my cup of tea so I thought this challenge would be a fun one. I think in my 12 years of making cabs for pendants I have only made one ring and one set of earrings. I did not get overly picky about the material used but I did try to use something that would still show some pattern even in a much smaller scale cabochon. Since round shapes are difficult I figured a 14mm round would up the ante even more. Beautiful cab Chuck! What's even more beautiful is seeing you jump into the contest Just having you here ups the ante for everyone to bring their 'A' game

I don't cab nearly as often as I used to but this one peaked my interest. I gained some added appreciation for folks that work on the small stuff. Chuck

Here's my entry for the month. I murdered some dino bone. Not happy with it. As I've mentioned, symmetry really is my forte, but it seemed necessary for the contest. To top it off, my heart wasn't really in it, and it shows, but it's what I have, and I don't have time to fix it, or to make another. Luckily january is another month, and I'll try again. meanwhile, I'll submit to show, that even after 10 years, things don't always work out the way you envision.
