Other folks use third party hosting services like Flickr and post the generated BB Code in their posts.

As far as selling, specifically here, selling takes place in the Marketplace, but users are typically required to have 100 posts under their belt before being allowed to post an ad there. You didn't mention that was your intention to do so here, but I thought I'd get it out of the way.
