Thanks Tela! It has some green and turquoise in there that I couldn't get a picture of. The colors are metallic and a photographer I am not! I was so taken aback by the opal that I didn't mention what a great cab it is. No room for error in material like that.

Beautiful cab Robin!
We still have a couple days- let's see if we can get a couple more entered!

I got my cab done. I planned on an opal also but it didn’t work out to my liking so I went with a piece of rhodochrosite. I’ll see if I can get the pictures resized and uploaded today.

Thanks Tela! It has some green and turquoise in there that I couldn't get a picture of. The colors are metallic and a photographer I am not! That's a great stone Robin. And the photography is very good. Opals are very tough to work with photographically and I'm impressed with your improving camera skills.

Jahic Excellent cab. The crystal structures add interest.

Jahic Excellent cab. The crystal structures add interest. Yeah they’re very interesting. I have some material with much bigger crystal structure that I intend to work on at some point. Some of the crystals are nearly as big as this cab.

First, I like these challenges, being new to cabochon making it allows me to focus on one aspect and not drift around. I liked this challenge do to the simple flowing lines, but difficulty in making them symmetrical. I choose to go with, what I felt was the easiest design, a round high dome cab. I forgot to get pictures of the rough and preform but here are the pictures of the finished cab. I tried to capture some of the interesting aspects of the material with not great results. The agate areas transition from bluish-gray to purplish-gray with ghost like parallel streaks. I did not notice the white and black dots in the rough and was surprised to see them emerge as I continued to refine the polish on the cab. The rough was found at Red Top in central Washington. I hope you enjoy.

Some nice ones. Not quite the last minute, but getting there. 😁
It’s gonna be another tough vote.

Thanks, Rick. Vince was finally able to bash into my pea brain what the exposure compensation dial does.

We are officially closed for new entries so great contest everyone! Thank you to everyone who participated.
Unfortunately I got slammed with work today but I'll get the voting thread up as soon as I possibly can.

Let the voting begin! Tough choice once again. Thanks hummingbirdstones2 for the cool skills challenge which definitely ripped a few of us out of our 'usual' comfort zone. Vince was wondering if very many folks would participate and at 15 entries and a difficult voting choice I would declare it to be a huge success. I love the number of entries we are getting in the contest month after month and will tease you with a "stay tuned" as the April contest should be posted by tomorrow with an awesome theme chosen by our February winner.
