Those parcelas agates are just spectacular. If you or anyone else knows how or where I could get a few please let me know. I suspect that you are going to say you got them decades ago at a rock shop. I think a lot of the "the don't make them like they used to" attitude around rough is nostalgia for high quality rocks that are no longer available. No doubt there was great rough coming out of the ground 50 years ago, but there is today, as well. Just different rocks in most cases. With that said, when I see photos of many of the rocks you got in the 70s, I can't help but think... They don't make them like they used to. These parcelas agates are one of those rocks.

Holajonthan, the Parcelas was just one of several unknown nodules purchased at a rock shop in Study Butte, Texas in the late 60's/70's. I was searching for Thistle/pompom that came from Needle Peak on the Woodward Ranch but had to look through a huge pile of Mexican and Texas material in the search. The price was right so I bought what I liked even if I or the owner didn't know exactly what is was until cut. I agree that new material may be different but still pretty.

Thanks for the history behind those. You have a good memory. I sometimes forget where I got a rock and it's only been a year or two. Then again, the experience you describe would certainly stick in your memory.

That's a nice one, Nate NDK. Those low domes are a bear! Good luck in the contest.

jasoninsdBeautiful composition and craftsmanship. This month's decision will probably come down to a coin toss.

Thanks Robin! jasoninsdBeautiful composition and craftsmanship. This month's decision will probably come down to a coin toss. Thank Bill! If I could offer one piece of advice...when you're flipping the coin I'd recommend choosing heads or tails. I've called "side" so many times and have yet to win a flip! LOL

I beautiful agate and a wonderful formed cab. I guess the up side of cabbing on a flat lap is that the slow grinding speed gives you time to really perfect the dome. The proportions seem to be spot on, and I think you've figured out where you new photo studio needs to be... outside.

So I Thought for sure Id have plenty of options of material to choose from for this month. However, after lots of digging through slabs and scraps and rough I came up with just one piece of crazy lace to use. And after few minutes of working a cab of it I remembered how much I love the stuff and need to restock! So I forgot to take pic of slab or preform but I got the scraps from cutting out the preform. Hope that will do. Roughly 54mm x 16mm.
