Here's the cabs I've been working on for the last few days. A lot of the same old teardrop shape...but a few new (shock!) shapes as well! I was able to get on the trim saw earlier this week and got a few new shapes cut out. Pics 1-2: Mahogany Obsidian. This is my first attempt at an inside swoop! It's going to take a couple more, but I think I'm getting an understanding of how this works... Pics 3-4: Mexican Royal Velvet Obsidian. This is my second attempt at the inside swoop. holajonathan , this is a "skinny" Interstate sign...as both areas of the top of the shield are swooped. Pics 5-6: Mahogany Obsidian. The small white dots you see are air bubbles in the obsidian! A couple of the bubbles came through on the surface...but I think the bubbles are really cool! Pics 7-8: Mexican Royal Velvet Obsidian. Same cab. First pic shows the actual color from head on, but the second shows color from the side and the reflections. Pics 9-11: Graveyard Point Plume Agate. I freaking love this material! Pics 12-14: Brazilian Piranha Agate. I think that first one is one of my favorites! Pics 15-18: Silver Lace Onyx. This material has always orange peeled on me. And while it did to a minor degree, it's the best finish I've ever gotten with this material. Pics 19-24: Fairburn Agates! The first two cabs are absolutely massive. I think they're the biggest cabs I've done. There are some minor fractures and some very minor pitting in these...but they're Fairburns! As always, thanks for taking a gander and comments and critiques are always welcome. I love that second velvet obsidian. Isn't that stuff really fun to work with?
Did you get the rough from Kalmore? We might not have enough of that here. Might need more... .

Woot! They're all beautiful, but those Fairburns are making me swoon. Especially that first one. You need to set the rock schmutz out of the druzy in that one so it sparkles like a showgirl in Vegas.

Jason, without elaborating, each and every one is stunning.

THanks Vince! Yeah...I freakin' love both the looks of it and the way this material works! Obsidian has become kinda fun as opposed to a PITA! (For now! LOL) My sister picked it up somewhere over on the west coast. She brought a box of it out to me this summer when she came for a visit. I still have quite a few pieces I couldn't figure out which way to cut them yet. I'm going to have to shave a little off of them to see if I can find the right direction. It was all tumbling rough, so there weren't any "massive" pieces. I can see if she remembers where she got it if you want me to.... Woot! They're all beautiful, but those Fairburns are making me swoon. Especially that first one. You need to set the rock schmutz out of the druzy in that one so it sparkles like a showgirl in Vegas. Thanks Robin! I'm looking forward to wrapping those huge Fairburns...I think I'm going to need a new spool of wire! LOL I usually take a toothbrush to the druzy pockets before I post pics...I don't know why I didn't this time...other than I was in a rush. I'll get it cleaned up...cleaner than a Showgirl! LOL Jason, without elaborating, each and every one is stunning. Thanks Don! I really appreciate it! And I'm glad you were able to figure out the "multiple quotes" thing over in Mike's thread.

Woah! Tell you what, how about we switch shops for the rest of the winter? I'm gonna look into buying a Blake's wooden spool at the club. I'm losing it without rocks. I love those sheen obsidians. They look awesome. Tepee canyon agates look great cabbed, especially by and expert like yourself

I tried to look up Blake's wooden spool...and I have no idea what it is...?? Actually, none of those are Teepee Canyon Agates. They're all Fairburn Agates I picked up at a massive estate sale down in Nebraska. I don't like the fact the one has the same colorization as Teepees...but I know it's a Fairburn... Those are cooler than the other side of the pillow. You really have some skills man. Thanks Lunk! I'm trying to learn something new each week...I'd say every day, but that's kinda pushing it for me! LOL Wow! That's a lot of gorgeous cabs! I started trying to remember the number of my favs, but the list got too long and I forgot.. But, yeah... Fairburns. Had to mention them. Thanks Tela! Not including the Velvet Obsidian, the Graveyard Point, or the Fairburns - LOL, I'd say #12 is my favorite. I love the "simplicity" of that one. Pic 13 for me but they are all gorgeous Thanks Evan! I got the Velvet Obsidian from my sister, so I sent her a link to these pics. She said she liked #7 and #13 best...so I told her I'd wrap those two and send them to her. That made her happy.

Boring like Elon Musk’s Boring Company
Velvets, Fairburns and Silver Lace, oh my….
It looks like a cabbing machine helped you solve the orange peeling issue.

The orange peeling is nothing like it was on the slant cabber. I've got a TON of Silver Lace Onyx preforms...so I can experiment a little more (read that as a lot more!) to see if I can improve it more than this did.

Boring is the new beautiful. Another great batch, Jason! That velvet obsidian is amazing, but the others aren’t too shabby either.

jasoninsd Sorry about that. I was too eager to see the cabs to read the full description first. 😂 I meant to say Blake's wooden spool polisher. This is a thread about it so you can see what it looks like: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/89238/opal-polisher You use it dry after 220 or 400 and it is super portable so perfect for winter indoor use.

Beautiful cabs. That first Royal Velvet is my favorite. Thanks James! That shape is such a pain in the tail for me! LOL - I need to start doing more of them so they become less painful...or I learn to ignore the pain. LOL Boring is the new beautiful. Another great batch, Jason! That velvet obsidian is amazing, but the others aren’t too shabby either. Thanks Brian! I need to start posting the Velvet Obsidian in a thread by itself...if I don't, it's like going to karaoke and having to sing right after Garth Brooks sings The Dance...it doesn't matter HOW good you are at that point, it's never enough! LOL jasoninsd Sorry about that. I was too eager to see the cabs to read the full description first. 😂 I meant to say Blake's wooden spool polisher. Perk, sometimes I do the same thing. It goes back to my younger years when I just looked at pictures in magazines and never even knew there were articles...and the only reading done was looking at "measurements"! LOL Thanks for posting that link. There's mention of using it for jade...which I just got done putting some jade on dop. I've never worked jade before...so that thread leads me to believe I need to check into working jade. Pretty cool machine. Looking at the thread now, I do remember seeing that before. Again, thanks for posting the link!

Thanks my friend! It is what it is, but I wished those Fairburns had been a different color in the fortifications - at least the one. I know the guy who collected these knew his rocks, so I have to believe these are Fairburns, because that's how they were labeled...but had someone just sent me a picture of the slab or cab, I would have bet anything that one was a Teepee Canyon Agate.

To be honest, I thought Teepees as well from just looking at the pictures- especially #19. But then I went back and read your descriptions and took a second look and yep I agree with Fairburns. The matrix is what makes me think that they aren't Teepees.
