realrockhound - After HOURS and HOURS of research, I think this piece is an amazing specimen of Wave Dolomite (aka Rolling Hills Dolomite): *Okay...it wasn't really hours! LOL

LOL I’d 100% agree with that. It’s a rare stone found in one small pocket in Mexico. The other known locality was found in my grandfathers rock shed 🤣

LOL Seriously, Jason, you didn't know what that was? I knew what it was the moment I saw it, but didn't say anything, because I didn't know you didn't know! I don't believe it is that rare, have seen/had it on several occasions. Yes, it is soft material, use a soft touch to work it.

Beautiful example of Ocean Wave! When first brought to market it was called Oaxaca Travertine and several other names. Got to be one of my favorite materials to cab. Grinds fast and takes an incredible polish. Ron, of Ron's Rocks, told me the Chinese were camped out on the mine site and buying up all the good stuff for carvings creating a real scarcity. Unfortunately, a lot of the material has straight line banding and lacks the beautiful whorls and curves. One of my most disastrous E-Bay purchases was a huge boulder of this dolomite that turned out to be all straight banding and ended up in the wife's flower garden back in California.

Found yesterday at my local resale guy. Somehow I missed this when I bought the collection of rough and slabs. Looks like lapis to me and is very deep blue: Maybe sodalite? I'm no expert, but it looks too dark to be lapis

We took a trip out to the Llano Slabs in Kingsland TX last week and we found an Arrowhead and a piece of Llanite (2 photos front and back) PhotosPhotos in the link above. Cheers, Dillon Guess I'll kick this off, see if it gains any traction. Hell, I'll probably keep using it for my quick posts anyhow. Show us your little glimpse of heaven on earth that you found, I guarantee someone else is gonna dig it and brighten their day Here is one of my favorite parking lot finds.

dillonf Thanks for sharing, I'd never heard of Llanite before. Looks like a brecciated moonstone conglomerate. Llanite sounds way better. I've found pieces of granite with big flakes of feldspar that look similar, but nowhere near the play in colors.

Thanks. My understanding, and I am a novice at best, is that the blue crystal flakes/inclusions are what make it Llanite? My pictures aren't that great, but hopefully you could see the blue flecks. I only have tumblers right now, but if I get a polishing wheel some day I'll polish one of the faces, and hopefully the blue crystals will pop. dillonf Thanks for sharing, I'd never heard of Llanite before. Llanite is a great rock. I love the combo of pinkish and blue in it.

Yep that's llanite the blue flakes are quartz crystals and is a rare color for quartz. Feldspar flakes usually accompany it. Cool stuff

Found this in the bottom of a slab box I purchased from roy. The box had all kinds of great stuff in it & I've already spent hours looking through it & washing slabs.
But I found this in the bottom :
Kind of a man made pudding stone with malachite & native copper, mixed with pearlescent resin. It looks like someone poured it into a cupcake mold & then cut slices.
So instead of pudding stone, I'm going to call this cupcake stone.
I hope it takes a polish, I think it's pretty cool.
