Picked up this baby sandstone spud It’s a unique Salt River leaverites In that it rare for this shade of sand This one did tumble a long time Pretty round and smooth How big was the chunk that started? What geographical era is it from? Most likely from the Colorado Plateau area The quartzy pure sand is sifted to about 400 grit How does nature work this wonder ? As Newton said about mechanism of gravity force ‘I proffer no hypothesizes….’ Anyway not to exciting The Salt River rocks Are mostly big dull felsic weight

Found on edge of yard while walking to mailbox. Location on my avatar. About 1 ¾” wide. It has a whole lot going on. Pinks, greens, reds, yellows and purples. Some parallax banding. Every side/angle is different.

fernwood You ever tumble one of those monstrosities? I find some that show some of the same characteristics.

Was supposed to be raining all day yesterday, so we made plans to go for a nice drive and got up a brewery in Moose Lake. Well the bad weather stayed west and headed north so we decided after a beer to check out one of the agate pits just north of town. The clouds rolled ina nd temp dropped 10° but we spent a little tiiand found a few little ones and some chips. That is my first eye agate I've found 👍

There is a antique shop that I've been itching to stop by for some time now and today I noticed a "ROCKS AND FOSSILS" sign out front. This is one of sprawling, unorangized, backyard kind of places full of lawn ornaments, gas station signs, and T-rex heads that line the streetside. He took me into one of the side garages after inquiring about his sign. Hard to poke your head around too far with the clutter blocking all lanes in and out, but I did come across a big ziploc baggie of this material. I instantly thought of the Blue Lace Agate I've seen floated around here. Not all of it was this laced, I picked a few prime pieces. Most was in shades of blue, grey, white, etc. So what do you guys think, did I stumble across something rare or is it just standard agate? It's beautiful either way. Also I thought this piece of Amethyst was pretty gnarly with all the green and gray banding set below.

Wasn't today but a couple of weeks ago Eva and I managed to slip off unnoticed and spent a nice day at the coast - started the day at Wrights Beach which is known for colorful northern CA jaspers. The pieces are mostly pretty small but once a while a larger chunk can be found. Who doesn't love a beach full of pebbles? A lot of the smaller stuff I just gathered up for filler. Most of it will disappear in the tumbler. After a yummy fresh halibut fish-n-chips lunch in Bodega Bay we headed down to Agate Beach in Bolinas for some fun time picking oil agates. A freezing cold wind was absolutely howling but we managed to spend about an hour at our favorite spot. This is what the agates look like in their native environment. The beach was LOADED with them this time. There's probably 50 or more agates in this picture.

These are from a batch I collected in 2014 but it is just to show what oil agates look like polished and back lit to show their inclusions.

Nice, easy haul Got off work early today to an absolutely gorgeous afternoon. Warm sun and wind, quick cold dip, enough to take your breath for a moment. I don't recall seeing a green hue on the big lake before, if I had to guess it had something to with the algae like material floating close to shore.
Glad I got to see it.

fernwood Beth, I had never heard of oolites until you mentioned it. Did a quick glance thru the literature and realized I need more than a quick glance lol I've found maybe 2 or 3 of what I thought were Septarians based on the color. The back side even has a little of the quartz like material poking thru. I'm still led to believe they form out of the same material.
I wonder now if what I'm seeing is oolites, encased in sedimentary clay. Dunno
