Guess I'll kick this off, see if it gains any traction. Hell, I'll probably keep using it for my quick posts anyhow. Show us your little glimpse of heaven on earth that you found, I guarantee someone else is gonna dig it and brighten their day  Here is one of my favorite parking lot finds.

This might not quite fit into the spirit of this thread, but here is my Find of the Day! I have a bunch of 5 gallon plastic buckets of rocks stored in the basement. The other day, I noticed a bad smell coming from the general area of the buckets. Investigating, I found the mostly decomposed remains of a mouse or similar creature. Without getting too graphic, I took the bucket outside to try cleaning the mousey goodness that had oozed over the rocks in the bucket. As I finished up washing everything off, I caught a flash of color in the sunlight. I enjoyed a very brief moment of excitement as the first thought that came into my mind was "opal" before realizing it was just a tiny piece of goldstone :-(  Green Gold Stone by Shiny Objects, on Flickr  Green Gold Stone by Shiny Objects, on Flickr I also found this heel cut. Finding it didn't get me as excited as the "opal" but my happiness at finding it is lasting much longer. It is about 4 inches wide and there is just enough to get 1 slab from it. Found this in river gravel. Kinda hard to see but there are a bunch of sticker burr looking things in all sorts of colors. Some of which look almost metallic colored.  |

I only found out awhile back that goldstone had variety and was manmade, really like that variety you have there.

The snow piles are melting. Yesterday while coming back from AM chores, saw this next to a small snow pile. My plower, got a new set up this year and plowed up some of the the driveway between the barn and house. That’s OK, because there was grass beginning to grow there. The new set-up allows for snow to be plowed much closer to the ground. I have found similar rocks in my yard and fields. I need to give this a good scrub, but sharing now. The rock is fairly large, say about 5” by 3”. I put a quarter for size reference.      |

I think that bottom purple one is Royal Aztec Lace. Nice "find".  |

Son Of Beach what is the ID on the find you shared at the start of this thread? I found something similar on the UP side of Lake Superior and it’s my favorite find of all time.

realrockhound That first one is so unique in the colors and pattern stuckinohio I have no idea. I didn't post it to the ID section as I figured it would be to obscure to identify. Mine has a brown crust on the backside. I threw it in the tumbler yesterday, hopefully it will hold up.

I see some of your goodies from the lot made the background too . Lol good eye. Yep when I grabbed the lapis(?) I grabbed a few more slabs and another Bruneau nodule that slipped thru the cracks and were also missed on the initial purchase. I feel like the blue stone is beyond tumbling and would be slabbing/cabbing material. I just have to work my way up to it; there are 3271 stones currently ahead of it! |
