Does anyone know what the date is for this glorious gathering? The last one was the Friday when the PowWow show was going on. Would that make it January 19th 2024 for this next one? We are planning on going again and looking at booking hotels a bit earlier this time, I think we booked them like a week before the show last time lol. We are looking forward to seeing y'all again and some new faces!! The Powwow is always the 3rd weekend in January and Tony's main bbq has always been that Sat evening. The last few years after Tony's main bbq got very popular and large with several groups participating we started doing a seperate smaller RTH get together on Friday night. I do not know what plan Tony is cooking up for 2024. catmandeweIt has worked good in the past, I think we should keep it the same. Friday for RTH get together and Saturday for the big BBQ Tony

I put a 55 lb sack of 80 grit AO in my 1000 lb tumbler and ran it for 20 days, it came out almost polished, I just had to run it through a vibe polish for a day or two and it was finished. Tony That is pretty much what I am hoping to accomplish…just on a much much much much much much smaller scale. I’m also counting on it taking quite a bit longer. If, after a month, I am seeing what I hope to see I will let it continue. That must’ve been one big vibratory to finish it up lol. Out of curiosity, what was the rock shaping like? Did the aluminum oxide shape and smooth the rock like the silicone carbide does? Or was it a more natural shape. It did some shaping but not as much as the SC does. I had lots of saw scraps in there so just rounding the sharp edges was good enough. Tony

I'm with pebblesky . After getting a QT12-which I am happy with-I have regrets. Wish I went with a high speed Rebel 17 for faster grinding. You could use the 33B for polishing stages in the interim, and work towards also acquiring a vibratory tumbler. That would be my ideal setup. I am not sure if the high-speed Rebel 17 is actually faster in grinding. I remembered somebody did a comparison in high-speed and low-speed Rebel 17, and didn't see too much of a difference in grinding progress - maybe to fully utilize the high speed, one needs to recharge the grit twice a week instead of once a week? The Rebel 17 drum is also much heavier than a QT12 barrel, I guess. The High speed Rebel 17 is designed for tumbling brass cartridges, the low speed Rebel 17 is designed for tumbling rocks. Tony

Some of those put up a page that looks like paypal and you have to log in. If you do that you have just given the scammer your paypal login and password. Usually if its too good to be true, it is. Tony

The HP agate eater blade takes a bit to break in, thus it is grinding more material than the old worn blade. Grinding more material creates more pressure on the vise, when it gets too much pressure the spring lets it slip over a tooth to keep it from going too fast and ruining something.
You either need to get the blade broken in or add more spring pressure to your feed dogs.

You need continuous duty, intermittent duty will not work, you will get stop and start marks on your slabs.

Dayton 52JE07 if you want CCW Dayton 52JE17 if you want CW Both are 4 rpm
The only speed control the LS12 had was the switch on the left, you had to sit and babysit it, if it ran too fast you flipped the switch to turn the feed motor off and let the saw catch up, then turned it back on.

$6 a lb, I will have to go out and look and see what sizes I have left. Let me know what size of piece you would like and I will find something similar and send you photos.

They are good people, since Covid the pay dig sites have been closed and only the rock shop is open.
They have tons and tons of rock there, which is probably why they can offer better prices, most of the people selling online that are double their price are probably buying from there or someplace similar.

Most hardware stores have a few bearings in stock, pick out a small one and find a bolt that fits in the center of it, drill a hole for the bolt so that the edge of the bearing will be the right distance into the tumbler. Bolt it on and viola! you are good to go.
Tony
PS- sometimes you will need to put a little washer or spacer underneath the bearing to keep it from rubbing on the frame. It all depends on the bearing you pick out.

It is riveted in, you can drill it out and re-rivet or put a screw in the hole. Or you can just mount a regular bearing on that end and the bearing will roll instead of wear out.
