There shipping is now $15. I wanted the jellybean (upper right) and added two Linda Marie and a Lace to reduce shipping. ' ![](https://images2.imgbox.com/f2/f8/Z0QiOkcL_o.jpg)

Winter is here and there will be few days to grind, but that hasn't stopped from shopping. Packages are arriving and the trim saw is set up. Polka dot agate and Ray Mine Blue Dot Chrysocolla. ![](https://images2.imgbox.com/27/42/49Fq0zff_o.jpg)

I had a 16 inch Covington combo saw and was not happy with it. It was fast but the clutch mechanism is finicky and the carriage drifted causing binding and difficult to always get even thickness slabs. I bought the 10 HP and it is slow but reliable and the blade has a narrow kerf. I ordered a 14 inch that has a thicker kerf. The 12 and 14 have the same kerf. I bought the 14 because it will cut larger rocks. The design is the same for the 10,12 and 14 inch saws. Since the 12 is in stock and on sale it is a good choice. I bought the 10 because it was $1,000 and in stock. I like it for small rough because there is less waste when cutting expensive rough.

I've been buying small split crandallite nodules from a seller in Utah. They are inexpensive and come from the same location as Clay Canyon. I started with two and got two nice cabs. I ordered some more and they weren't as nice but I still was able to make some cabs. I sent him one and a Lucin Variscite. I recently ordered some more got three cabs to sell and sent him another two. Today, he sent me some more for free and another couple pieces. I've got three small pieces to make cabs with.

The highest surface is in contact with the disk until it flat and any valleys are gone.

What I suggested works with heels. You are not the only person who gets uneven slabs. I buy a lot of them.

There is no need. You are cabbing preforms not the entire slab. Trim off the knife edges and areas you are not planning to use. If an area on the preform is too thick to grind, slice some off with the trim saw. One side is flat and the other isn't as long as the flat side is the bottom, nothing else to do. When you need to make the bottom the top, then grind the preform to relatively flat using a wheel; rotating or figure 8 and then make perfectly flat using a lap.

Listing is just a routine for me; three pictures. measurements, description and disclosures. The only thing that requires thought is pricing. I slot against my other similar listings and when there aren't against other listings. I don't sell very much. Enough to spend on good materials and supplies.

I'm happy that you are enjoying doing this. There is satisfaction from someone looking at your work rather than just a picture. I live in a cave and am not a social animal. My father was in retail sales and spent a lot of time waiting for a customer to serve. I worked at the same store in a different area when I was in college doing very little sales work.
My son and I did a few sports cards shows and I have gone to plenty of lapidary/craft shows. I'd rather sit in my cave and make stuff, list it and then forget about it.

My tax situation has changed so I decided to track expenses. I didn't look at equipment depreciation or energy costs, just purchases of equipment and supplies. I downloaded the first 10 months of paypal, went through my credit card statements and Amazon purchases. Most of it was paypal and I converted the files to spreadsheets and typed in the rest. It came to about $3.000 and I expect another $1,000 for the rest of the year. My marginal tax bracket was about 10% but it may be 25% because of some financial planning. I've never filed as a small business before but with taxes it's mainly documentation.
