That's what I found Jean. Thank you. No mention of how large an event it is that I can find. Maybe my local rock club (which I don't belong to) has more info. I'll try contacting them. Would be a good 3+ hours each way and don't need to go if it is not an impressive event. We don't get many rock shows in Florida, so anything with more rocks than my garage catches my attention.

You have any more information on this event? I googled it and what I found on Facebook didn't say much. It would depend on how large it is as to whether the drive from Tampa Bay is worth it for me.
You have a link to any other sites or posts about this? Where you driving from?

Someone remind me someday if I ever come back here more often to post pictures of the rocks I ran in polish for a full year. It was actually an amazing result. I’ll remind you right now. I’d love to see that. Who else tumbles rocks for a full year? That was just the polish stage for a year. (forgot about them) I've never seen shiner rocks! They had run for at least 9 months prior to that going through the other steps before they got to the polish. I have two barrels going that haven't been checked (opened) since February 2018.

Thinkin' out loud here ...
wonder if a polish other than an AO (Aluminum Oxide) might be of benefit with these "softer" rocks.
I use Tin Oxide on softer rocks and often get better results than just going with an AO polish. Maybe a Cerium Oxide instead of TO as it is also usually used with "softer rocks or glass. (I'd go with tin oxide)
ALSO ... When babying rocks, I often throw in a Tripoli (pre-polish) run. Not sure it is worth the time if you are already going from 500 to 1000 before polish. I use Tripoli before 1000 as it is kinda equivalent to 700-8-- grit. Anyone not running a 1000 grit step is a slacker! Overkill is my middle name. Burnishing may help with a softer rock. I don't bother with that anymore unless I'm super in love with the rock load - which is rare these days. And, all my rock tumbling is in rotary machines. Maybe in those newfangled vibes it don't matter.
Good luck to all and bring us home the trophy!

Nice day for a beach walk, - except maybe that 40° stuff - thanks for taking us along.
Hope you got some help carrying that pudding stone in the house! Very cool rock at the 17:40 mark. Hope to see what you get from it someday.
Good on ya for picking up all that rubbish washed up on the beach.

Hey LV, have you tried to lube the shaft? Try using something like PB Blaster or another penetrating oil. Maybe stand the unit on end so you can spray the shaft around the wheel and the oil can soak down under the wheel. May take a day or two of spraying and letting the oil do it's thing, but might be worth a try before resorting to brute force. Can you post a picture of what you are working on?
Welcome to the forum!

I switch from ceramics to plastic beads from 500 grit on through the polish/burnish. You're really not removing anything other than the "scratches" left by the previous grit in these end steps, so I think that's a good stage to start babying the stones.
I keep my plastic beads stored in containers marked with which step they were used in. Don't care to use beads/pellets used in a coarser grit in a finer grit or polish step. Maybe not be necessary, but I don't take chances that way to avoid cross contamination.
The finer the grit the fuller I have the barrel. You don't want a lot of empty space in fine grit / polish stages. Good luck to ya!

aside: This thread needs to go back where it was (FOR NOW) so folks see it. Or, maybe the thread can be duplicated to be in both sections. I was watching the video (took about an hour with breaks) and had to come find it to post. Seriously, who looks in here...? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Rob... Thanks for the great thread. Enjoyed watching the whole thing. "Don't use your toothbrush for this, this is my wife's." Laughed out loud at that! I believe you inspired me to start playing with my rocks again.
I was bored with 'em, but after watching your video, realize that I kinda miss it. I am down to three tumblers running, BUT ... Haven't checked them in a LONG time. Two of them have been running untouched since February 2018 (really, 14 months - they are rather dusty!), and the third I last checked on October 7th - 6 months ago. *snicker* Just didn't care about tumbling anymore. I think taking a year off from tumbling has given me a nice break and it may be time to get some fresh material rolling. If I can find any rocks around here! Enjoyed the video, Great job putting it together. The time involved is appreciated. Nice batch of lace BTW... And thank you for the inspiration.

Haven't wandered through here in awhile, so just saw this.
Nice lookin' pieces. Seems you have that glass tumbling dialed in. Are you doing anything with all this glass you make and tumble? (no need to answer... probably forget about this thread by the next time)

Interesting project - as always. Panels look similar to what was used for the roof of our sun room - steel sandwiching foam. Lay a linoleum floor on the top side to cover seams and totally weather proof it.
Happy New Year ...

Hiya back atcha Ali
I was snickering because I am the one to know.
Have bought a bunch of rocks from Paul. Found it humorous that I may be shipping California rocks from Florida back to Cali
I'll email him.
