Been thinking about this for awhile. Just eyeballin' the situation = $ for a week(ish) 300+ for a flight 6-700 for a vehicle rental 1000(ish) for a motel a couple hundred for food & beverages
So a couple thousand bucks without even buying any rocks. Add another several thousand for rocks (why go if not buying rocks!) plus shipping rocks home cost (and hassle) and it's a 5 - closer to 10k week.
Thinkin' a couple weeks back in Texas for 25 hundred or so might be the better bang for the buck. Plus hounding is just so much more fun. And I hate crowds. The Tucson show is my dream rock getaway - kinda thinkin' that is easily a 20+k week. Gotta plan ahead on a trip as big as one of these 2 shows. Maybe next year.
I should have taken up collecting something that is cheaper and weighs less than rocks for a "hobby"!

Map numbers/temperatures seem to be updating automatically.
My sister and BIL live in Jacksonville (Fl) and are both up in Rochester Minnesota right now for the birth of first grandchild. Happened this morning... Sister has been there a month and is staying until March or something stupid like that. She has told her daughter that if they have any more children to kindly do so during the summer months. High temp in Rochester tomorrow predicted to be -8°
Might be bearable if used to such, but no place for Florida folks!

Happy New Year to you as well. Beautiful area.
I just checked your weather there and it looks like it rains most every day. But, it is much warmer down there!

Like that green tree as well. Have some nice rough, but think it may make better cabs (which I don't do) than tumbles.
No problems with the Kambaba? No pits? You use AO polish on it - and the Turritella?

Nice batch Rob!
I really like your Turritella. Have a bunch, but never tried tumbling it. Does it take a good shine?
#3 Kambaba (sp?) any problems with that? I've seen it take a fair shine and then also come out matte. Some I have seen tumbled seemed to have trouble with pits through out the rock. (?)

my buddy I was raised next door to as a kid, his Mom was 5th generation potter from SE Alabama. Several families actually. She had a whole houseful of clay. Best of the best. Passed downs. My buddy hated the stuff. when she passed he hurled all of it into a dumpster. Collection worth a fortune. Told me after-the-fact. Some of those pieces well over 10 grand. #@$%^^ Sounds like my darlin' wife unit and my rock collection. She says that if&when I die, she will be calling 1 800 GOT JUNK to come haul it all away. I tell her not to be so flippant about it and that she could sell it all and buy 2 of the houses we live in and have enough left over to furnish them. Think she says such to get my goat. I explain that I won't be in any position to care what she does. That usually shuts her up. I hope she enjoys selling rocks! A grand posthumous haunting scheme by means of minerals. *grin* Your buddy was a dumbass just throwing money away like that. Wonder if there were underlying issues.

Sunny and 78° today. Did get down to a chilly 65° last night though! Started day in shorts and a sweat shirt. Switched to a t-shirt and now no shirt. All doors & windows in the house open.

Nice! That will save someone a lot of time in the coarse grit runs. Great price too!
