coulda done without that, but the wimmins will probably appreciate it ...
Was thinkin' - that those baking sheets under your rotary tumblers have to add (amplify?) noise. Understand the logic behind having them there, but maybe a rubber pad, towel, or something between the tumblers and the metal might not be a bad idea. ?

I don't think that first one is a jasper either. Looks similar to aventurine.
They have carnelian in Panama?

Hey Mel, can you please spend a minute explaining the difference(s) between shrinkwood and rot wood? Thanks. Hope you and Sharon had a nice Christmas!

That's worth logging in for. Some of that shrinkwood is as good as it gets! Outstanding specimens. Thanks for the photos, but this thread should have come with a drool warning.

Off to a great start Paul. Pull rocks out and set them aside as they get to the shape you want them. You don't want to keep running the rocks ready to move on as they are going to continue to get smaller.
Add fresh rough to make up for pulled rocks and lost material as it grinds away. Keep this up as long as necessary to have a full load ready to move on to the next grit. You won't lose all that much mass in the finer grits.
You have plenty of material to work with, so don't be worried about pulling out pieces that are giving you problems or that have bad cracks or just don't measure up. Basically, don't waste time or poor quality rocks.
Hope that you keep at it and post pictures of your progress.

You need to show this glass with a different background. Something textureless (is that a word?) like blue construction paper. Hard to tell what's really going on there with that background surface. I have a BUNCH of that glass from a very recent Oh Shit moment, but doubt that I will try tumbling it. Worried about what it will do to a rubber tumbler liner. Probably can't hurt your PVC, but figure it could shred rubber. Also don't see spending time on tumbling clear glass with more quality rocks to tumble than I can get to in 5 years. Good test material for your experiments to finesse soft rock tumbling methods. Merry Christmas buddy!

You finding most of your customers are wanting covers now? I recall when covers weren't even an option. They must be profitable. Have to weld handles to all of them? Do they get the same patina as the bowls? Thinkin' if they didn't rust then people could sit on it. Wonder if a round all weather cushion (something that wouldn't soak up water) for when the pit is not in use would sell ... In the 2nd photo above there are some huge rounds leaning against the wall, must be 4 to 5 feet across. You make a fire pit that big? Looks cold up there! 3 more days of 80° here before it cools down on Christmas day to 70° then it warms back up!
