Very nice gift. May I ask why you didn't want to post about it? Are some of the recipients on here? Perhaps you mentioned it before, but I don't get out much. Yeah very unlikely, but I just wanted to be extra careful in case it got back to the people receiving the gift. I also posted a tutorial of how it was made on my website that my family/friends were invited to so didn't want to risk it. You ought to post a link to your website in your sig line, or something.

I don't think there should of been any doubt that they would love them. Makes me think I need to do this for all the women in the family, too. I've gotta say it was a good idea (not originally mine so I can't take credit) and a lasting connection & heirloom. Just be sure to make a few more than you plan on needing 😳 Well, I'd say you succeeded in the "lasting connection and heirloom" department, and I really like that idea. They will surely be treasured for generations. Did you finish the front and back the same way?

I spent this evening finishing a pistol holster made of shark skin. This one was a bit problematic to accommodate the electronic sight. I think I can do better on the next one. The holster is awesome! What exactly do you think you can do better? I'm looking at it and I don't see any areas that look like they need work. I've never worked leather so I'm just curious. I think my potential for improvement is about 25% workmanship and 75% design. The typical person doesn't know that a tremendous amount of design has to go into a holster in order to get it to do it's job. A really good leather worker can make a beautiful holster that is worthless. An example is I made the belt slots at about a 15 degree angle from the pistol axis. I should have gone with 20 degrees.

Really nice work Randy. Have you or anyone you know of made pistol poostool grips out of coprolite? I've never seen them, but I plan on trying it some day. Probably work best on a 1911 gun. I've hoarded a lot of Wyoming nephrite for gun grips because I think they will have a tough durability that the agates don't have.

rockjunquie
But, I learned since that people who know they are dying will treat their loved ones really awfully.
I didn't know this was a thing. I'm glad you mentioned it because it helps me to understand why someone close to me behaved so horribly while he knew he was dying many years ago. It always bothered me that I couldn't think well of him since, but now I guess I understand that knowledge of one's impending end can bring out the worst in a person.

I've been working at my leather working skills. Here's a pistol holster made from stingray skin.

Merry Christmas everybody. Here's a special Christmas edition that has a nice red jasper gastrolith showing on the outer surface.

Dave, I'm so glad you're home and doing so well!! We'll have to hear the "combative" story sometime. Thank you for the education about stroke. Some of it I didn't know. Great reminder, too.
Do you suppose it involves a rock hammer? Isn't there a photo floating around here somewhere of Dave threatening the photographer with a rock hammer? It seemed menacing.

Combative, huh? There's got to be a joke in there somewhere. Glad you're back.

Here's one where some ancient man knocked a big agate flake off for knapping purposes.
