I used to work for a cigarette vending service in 1970 Great job. Tax stamping the bottom pack of cigarettes, filling vendor routes w/ supplies, and using a Pitney & Bowes coin sorter to count the coins from the returning routes. It was mandatory to look at the edges of the all those coins in the counter and pull out the pre-1965 dimes. That silver rind really stood out Hey mohs,I worked for a vending company years back! Could dump $200 to $300 in quarters on the table, and could hear if one was silver. snuffy

The owner of the Smithville Rock Shop passed away this month,I just found out today. Lorene Kohut,86 ran the rockshop many years.A few of you from the Houston and Austin area are familiar with her. I sold many slabs there over the years, and will truly miss visiting with her.

Will set out 10 more tomato plants today along with a few pepper plants and a couple of eggplants. I am lucky here as there are two other gardeners pretty close who like to talk gardening and trade plants and share harvest. Now if I just had a couple of rockhounds as neighbors! I think we are safe from any more cold weather. You are south of me,usually a few degrees warmer.

Looking good snuffy. That weather system has moved in over us now. Same ole stuff, protecting those plants. Exceedingly warm winter. Plants are way further along than ever in 25 years. My frost blanket entails raising the water over the tops of my aquatic plants. Cheating... There wasn't a heavy frost, but enough to have ice on top of the covers over them.Nurseries are sending out plants earlier than they used to it seems. If the weather cooperates, can have a good early crop. But the nurseries like late frosts and freezes, more sales for them!! Extended forecasts look good, but never know for sure, gonna set everything out this week. snuffy

Slot machines are illegal in Texas. Last June an Indian casino opened up 2 hours from my house. They have class 2 electronic bingo machines, which many people have no idea they are playing bingo, reels and all just like a regular slot.Won $3925 jackpot. Sometimes I'll win 200 to 500 bucks, sometimes lose 500 or 600. Been 17 times I believe, love it.Day trip for me and the wife.Still ahead on the money. I'm not like a lot of people I know that claim to win every time they go! Count my money before I go in,and count on the way home.

Anyone familiar with this area? My daughter and family will be transferring there shortly. I've never been to the Northwest, that will change before long!

Celebrity, Bella Rosa and Sweet Chelsea here. Late Frosts, hot Summer weather, Birds and the neighbors growing Pine Trees all work against my crop. Too bad tumbler slurry is not good for Garden, I would have bumper crops. H I dumped all my slurry in mine for the last 10 years, unless one of the rare times I used borax.

When are your tomato plants going in the ground? Will plant some of mine in a couple of weeks in a frost/bird protected enclosure. Count the days until the harvest. What variety do you grow? H These will probably go in around the middle of March, depending on the 10 day forecast then. They will have bloom clusters, sometimes little tomatoes on them when I do.I plant the Celebrity variety mostly, with a few Early Girl, and a few Sweet 100s.I jumped the gun last year, and freeze got a lot of them. Good luck!! snuffy

Put the cover on my little hothouse this morning. This is my 43rd season. Sad thing is only a couple of us left in the area that have one.No youngsters go into it. Too much work I guess. I work mine with a shovel, keeps me in shape,I hope. Will fill it up this week Onion bed. My first planting got killed by a hard freeze, first time this happened. This was second go around. The tomato beds lie in wait. Sorry ,northeners!! snuffy

I'm glad to hear Ed is ok! Over the many years on here, you get to know many people. When longtime members suddenly drop out of sight, makes you wonder what happened to them.
