Thanks woodman.
Mitziefisher, what you have would be called a signer. It's an agate which was trying very hard to become a Fairburn. It has the right type of fortifications, but not enough to be considered a Fairburn. At least you have a good idea of what to look for. With any luck you'll find a nice Fairburn next time you look.

Much of South Dakota was once part of a vast shallow sea. Many marine fossils are found, especially in western South Dakota. Larger pics would help, but I don't believe what you have is a Fairburn agate. More likely what is locally called a prairie agate. Marine fossils embedded in the matrix are quite common.
If you can, post a larger pic of what you think may be Fairburn patterning in your rock. With more to look at, we'll be able to tell you for sure if it is or isn't a Fairburn.

Or you could always watch for one of these to come on the market. It takes up a lot more room than the Covington drill, but these were made to last a lifetime.

Dear Abby, My husband hasn't worked for the last 14 years. All he does is get dressed in the morning and hop in his fancy car to visit his cronies. I know he`s cheated on me many times with young girls who could be his grand daughters. I know because he brags about this to me. He smokes fancy cigars and drinks the most expensive Champagne day and night. We sleep in separate beds because he`s always telling me he knows I`m a lesbian and my varicose veins and hairy back turn him off! Should I clobber him with my frying pan, or should I leave him, Abby? Your advice would be appreciated. Mad as Hell Dear Mad as Hell, You don`t have to take that kind of treatment from any man. I suggest you pack your bags and move out a.s.a.p.! Don`t resort to clobbering him with the frying pan, and try to act like a lady! Remember, you`re running for President of the United States, so try acting like one! Abby

Another 2 cutting oils that were used were Pella A & Almag. LOL, I'm old enough that I could tell you what it is just by the smell. Each had its own smell. Even the transformer oil.

Unless you know exactly what it is, I'd pass on it. Many of the old time cutters used transformer oil. It was only after many years of using the stuff that they found out it's one of the things that cause cancer.

LOL. John, the guy I got my 20' from also had a one trip 40' container, but I don't need anything that big.
For the heat problem I have one of those big box fans I'll put inside to blow hot air out when I'm working in there.
I want to set mine on a concrete slab for 2 reasons. #1, it won't sink into our clay mud during spring thaw, & #2, Field mice won't be able to burrow under it to build nests.

I'll look into those Ed. But for an 8' X 8' opening, they may not make them.

Rained off & on all day. No boxes moved. No shelves built. But I'm drawing up plans for a screened entry which I want to set just inside the metal doors.

Will you leave room for a little cot for visiting rockhounds? Cot ? Heck, I could probably fit a queen size bed in there with no problem. Hmmm, may not be a bad idea. Never know when I'll find myself in the doghouse.

Hey Ed, this one's not reconditioned. It was a one trip container sent from the west coast to South Dakota. Except for a couple of very small dents in the back wall, and fork lift tire marks on the floor, It's brand new. I was lucky to find a one tripper locally.

Bought myself a near new 20' shipping container to use as secure lock up for rocks & spare equipment. Plans are to have a concrete slab poured in late spring for it to sit on. Shelves will be built across the end & about 3' down each side. A small work bench will also be added. I plan to build in a 30 amp RV type electrical system with a water tight electrical connection on the outside of the container. For now, I can haul many boxes of rocks out of our living room which will make my wife happy. She'll be able to set up a Christmas tree for the first time in 3 years. Most important is that I have a water tight, (double seals on the doors), bug & mouse proof place to store me precious rocks & project machines in various stages of restoring. And I won't have to worry about our wild field cats getting in to have their babies & infest the place with fleas. I'll add pics as work progresses.
