Nice batch! Is that llanite something that is generally available or did you get a deal on a bunch of it? It looks cool, I'd love to try cabbing up some sometime. Hi John: The llanite(sp?) I've seen around at various times at the shows. It does polish up really nicely. At the time, I'd only bought that one slab from Christopher (@christopher1234) at one of the shows. PM me your address and if I run across any more, I'll ship it out your way. Paul

Hi Rob, we're along the coast so no snow, only rain. Lots. And mudslides, if you're "lucky". The Sierras and local San Gabriel mountains have been getting lots of snow, though. We've been praying for rain as this CA drought is really bad.

Despite the recent intense rains in SoCal the last couple of weeks, my garden has decided to bear fruit and start flowers anyway ... my total lack of attention to it notwithstanding. Orchids are sending up flower sprays: Dwarf Guava: These are sweet but they have seeds. Dwarf Bananas: Tangerine: This one came with the house and has been a consistent producer for us. The fruit of this one is really sweet (as in you'll gain weight from the amount of sugar in them). Over the new years weekend, we spent some time down in Palm Desert with some friends and did some outdoor activities out in the desert. Nathaniel probably cycled 300 rounds that day. Nothing to do with rock hounding ... Paul

Ah, thanks for the help, Mel! The comparison is helpful as the materials at Nevada Mineral and Book don't look like the photos you posted.

Why does sodalite look metallic? Ain't it sposed to be blue? Hi Scott: I couldn't get a decent photo with the reflection. It is a very deep blue bordering on navy. Made it hard to photograph.

Great catch!!!! That mohawkite is incredible!!!! Yowzer! I was thinking Contra Luz Mexican opal on the amber rough. Think I need to check some pawn shops now. I was thinking the same...I've got a relatively large one nearby that I may start frequenting.

Wow! Even on the non-shiny ones, they are winners. I think some rocks look better in a flat finish. Thanks! Thanks Pat. That pet wood was difficult as the bark took the polish but the interior would not although the rings stood out better. One piece took a good polish but it didn't have the really neat ring patterns so it came out looking like, well, polished agate, which is what it is LOL.

Excellent polish. That condor agate has style and sass. Thanks Adam ... I picked up a few small nodules from a vendor some years back at a CFMS show. Forgot who it was. she always had a great selection of rough and finished. Hell of a shine on the sodalite...Got yourself a mirror...LOL..Your petwood looks like some Eden Valley I just cut ....Nice on all accounts...John The sodalite took the shine better than I thought it would although it made taking photos difficult. Thanks for checking them out, John.

Thanks, Ed. It's a good place for my boys as it's eeaasssy! Although I will state that I felt pretty silly when I realized what I had dumped into the garden! HA! Hope you had a great Christmas! Yeah, but what you dumped in the garden would probably be a WOW!!! for me. I did pick up a really nice red clay dirt clod the other day...crumbled off an undercut clay bank from all this rain we've had. Christmas was good...eventually. Our daughters and granddaughters were coming for supper Christmas Eve but both got held back due to the rain. My youngest daughter and her three little ones took almost 1-1/2 hours to travel about 15 miles (as some crows fly) trying to get home that afternoon from another Christmas gathering...road after road was closed/flooded. Eventually when they made it home we told her to stay there. We saw them all the next day and I had some good time with the granddaughters. I hope ya'll had a good one, too! Whoa, sounds like everyone had an adventure...glad everyone was safe. Funny comment about the red clay! My boys tend to go for volume so there's piles of rock out back that probably could have stayed up in the desert but, ultimately, it's about being out with my boys. They won't be with me and my wife forever so we try and make the most of the time God gives us.

Nice stuff. The wood looks like it's probably blue forest from Wyoming. Thanks! It's part of a bucket I picked up from a blow-out sale from the local rock club. None of it was marked, unfortunately.

Glad you like it! The llanite is definitely interesting. The little blue quartz spots make it pop. Supposedly, this is used in kitchen countertops, which would look pretty awesome.

In between life and all that it entails, I finally managed to get around to finishing up the October vibratory lap batch. Some are still sitting in the garage waiting for their photos to be taken. All have gone through the cerium oxide cycle although some didn't make it past the 600 grade and will have to go back for some additional trimming and re-work. Here's the first few with the pic's taken. Condor Agate: Thunderegg: Petrified Wood: Sodalite - this was a pain to get a decent photo: My car in the sodalite, LOL: Llanite: others to follow... Thanks for looking.
