Really nice looking area for rockhounding!!! Looks like ya'll had a fun day of it, too!!! Thanks for sharing. I guess I could go out and see what I could find but I know what it would be...mud, mud, and....more mud. Palm...I can only dream!!!! What a treat it must of been to find out that you had been finding palm...and then to go dig in a pile at your house and pull out even more!!!! What a treat!!!!! Merry Christmas to you and your very special rockhound buddies!!!! Thanks, Ed. It's a good place for my boys as it's eeaasssy! Although I will state that I felt pretty silly when I realized what I had dumped into the garden! HA! Hope you had a great Christmas!

Kind wisdom from Pat. I questioned sentiment, could be no other reason. @arrowheadave Intheswamp kk paulshiroma all been there done thats. Wrath man, wrath. Alternately, always keep a supply of USPS Flat Rate boxes in various sizes. ...

On a whim, the boys and I went on an impromptu rockhounding trip up to the high desert, east of Calico Ghost Town. Some of you in SoCal will recognize the site as the Yermo location next to the Calico Early Man Site. Since this was completely unplanned, we got a late start, leaving the house around 9:30 AM and joining all the Christmas Eve traffic that was trying to get out of town to Las Vegas or San Diego. The outbound traffic was pretty heavy. Andrew packed our snacks and drinks and I forgot my jacket. The boys didn’t, fortunately, as the weather was clear and cold (for SoCal) topping out at about 50 degrees and windy - 10-15 mph gusts - making it cooler and sometimes unbalancing us. The Yermo site is a good one as the access and pickin’s are easy for families. We stopped at two different collecting areas. A few photos of us going through the loose rock. We got back too late for photos of what we hauled back. Will try and get a few today as I’d like to cut some. On a prior trip we found a bunch of agatized palm fiber. At the time, I didn’t know what it was until I took it over to a friend, Walt Lombardo, who runs Nevada Mineral and Book. Genius that I am, I then promptly went home and scrounged through the backyard pile and pulled out all the other palm. Merry Christmas Everyone. Hope it’s a blessed day. UPDATED: A few photos of some of the material. It's pretty non-descript until you get around to cutting it. Then it's either a "WOW Awesome Find" or "... garden rock ...". We have LOTS of the latter! LOL Hope you all had a great Christmas!

That looks like a great batch! Looking forward to seeing how they come out. One of my cats always "helps" when a box arrives. They are very nosey!

Feel free to show off, Fireforged. I enjoy seeing what others have found, created, and built. It's always interesting. And welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum! I like the fact that you live off the grid. We're "partially" off the grid using solar electric panels and we may eventually get around to putting in another row. I envy the fact that you can put up a turbine! That's awesome. drocknut is awesome and has a lot of information to share. Looking forward to seeing your work. Paul

BTW, I like the signature: Rock fever is curable with more rocks. Sort of like, "my hangover will go away after this next six-pack". Just one more toke ...

OUTSTANDING. That's a beautiful cab. Congratulations. And I'm really impressed that you did that with sandpaper. Later I'll find you cutting these by hand ...

I take it back ... I think bucket one is the best of your three ... I'm biased ... I think the pet wood is cool.

I took a second, more careful pass this evening and have to say = this is a really nice haul. Those will slab up nicely. If you're into making cabs there should be some real winners in there.

I'm terrible at ID'ing stuff (other than the generic - agates, jasper, obsidian and some nodules that need cutting for better ID). This looks like a fun pile to work with. There's a lot of variety.
