Looking forward how you going to do it. I would keep a kite shape overall, and then lower everything except the seahorse to make it stand out by about a millimeter or two.

Got your coin ready? The farther I advance on the scythe, the more I think its better to create Charon instead of Grim. Started the face today and a scythe blade. Got a scythe nearly ready, but the more I think about it the less I like the idea. The attachment is too fragile for everyday use. I think I will just go for a Styx/Urshanabi/Phlegyas or Charon the ferryman of Hades, who these days is mostly represented with robes that way. And if I ever winn the lottery, have a proper jeweler make the blade in gold. By the end of the day, I simply miscalculated the space needed to affix the blade securely.

I know that cramps your 'sit out on the back porch' style with shorts and sandals in the tropical air We had temperatures in the lower fifties these past two weeks, but that feels way colder that the 40 we had in Austria this summer. The wet and wind make you feel cold all the time, even though the temp reaches 70 during the day.

In the last picture you got a couple of pieces that look like wood,.... but with the presumed hardness? ?

It took forever to get even the slightest hole. He gave up on it. It seems like what you do would be a slow process just based on the material. I find Jade can be very moody. Its though to cut, but easy to grind. As said I ruined two two-inch blades just cutting it away from the slab, but now grinding is no problem at all.

Looks good so far. I was a little surprised by how much you got done so quickly. I think of it as a much slower process. While there are lots of details, everything is flowing. Nothing intricate, or needing specific positions yet. That comes next.

Day two. connect one shoulder and bottom half to the back (inset shows bottom) get basic shape of one arm , handle and hood. Lower the rope to allow scythe to pass in front. Thats it for this week. Will not have time to work on the Fordome anymore till Sunday. So will spend the time to sand what I got, and then carry on from there. Thus far I only used two different burs. Destructed two cutting-blades while cutting it out of the slab, but since only a 4mm cup-bur is used up, the most used bur (a 5mm inverted trapeze) seems to be the most valuable tool for now and is far from used up. The biggest challenge now is to get proportions right for shoulders leading to the back, sleeves to fit intended hand-position, and hands. The flowing shape of the robe will be to my advantage this time, as hand sanding will soften the edges and hopefully gives it a softer look.

After a miserable start with the piece falling apart during removal of matrix, I thought my bad luck with US material continues. But after continuing on the middle-part , it looks like Bigfoot made its whereabouts known. :LOLOL: And also started a new project. My process to start a carving . First use carbon-paper to transfer a basic image, then cut out from slab, followed by cutting along the design to make lines permanent. After that give a basic all round shape to which 1D needs to connect to hopefully become 3D.

Don't sell yourself short kk, I don't have an artistic bone in my body, I couldn't even draw a pretty stick figure with a huge budget, 30 years of time and a professional coach. Neither can I. I still give my favorite teacher from Secondary school, a headache today, because I nearly flunked his art-classes, and today I have the honor of him wearing some of my pieces. I don't draw, but somehow stone seems to be a medium that I can work with.

I'm going to have to start keeping a closer eye on the carving forum. Thank you. No not having a closer look. We need more people to give it a try. Carving comes just as easy as cabbing and tools needed are in most of your houses already. Anyone who has the patience to get those fabulous domes, girdles and/or shines, has everything that is needed for carving.

Wow, quite a few things in the saw. Are you selling that root or are we going to see them soon cabbed up. Please don't shoot me, but...... Quite an assortment of beer-bellies lugging around those heavy rocks. Would have thought with all that exercise that you guys are six-packs all the way (and not only in the ice-box, at the back of the car)

Funny, I would trade 6000 pounds(exaggerating) of my cherished tumbles for 1 pound of kk carvings(heirlooms). HAPPY NEW YEAR KURT !! Lets hope this is the year to finally get the right inspiration for your pieces and then I'm sure its going to find its way back into your hands or around your lovely wife's neck.... You know what I have, so how about a design that you would like? ?

are you going to be in that carvers competition again? No plans for it yet, but likely to try to keep things interesting. If the jade Symposium, and we can choose our own material, then most likely yes.
