This is a video I made at a ditch near my house. It's a fairly well known place to look for fossils. Lots of tiny marine fossils from the Devonian Period found there.

Before seeing this, I would have said that I prefer Bots to Montanas. Now I’m not sure. Those first two Montanas really look good to me, but I can’t describe why. I love that root beer color, I guess. Great batch!

That's a really nice looking display and A.J. looks very professional. You should ask Chuck Drummond Island Rocks about selling bulk tumbled stones. I think those do really well for him and his son. Just an idea for next year. I also like the tic tac toe idea. I'm surprised those didn't sell better.

! Someone remind me someday if I ever come back here more often to post pictures of the rocks I ran in polish for a full year. It was actually an amazing result. I’ll remind you right now. I’d love to see that. Who else tumbles rocks for a full year?

Cool you already made a video!! My stones look similar to yours in terms of coloration. Your main video stone picture has the most pink - more than most of mine. I’m finishing mine tonight and will evaluate before I consider them done or not. Will you post final pics here prior to submission? Just curious. I will if others are but prob won’t If no one decides to prior. The one on the title screen was the most pink, but has that awful spall on the front. I used that picture because i thought it might be best to get visibility on YouTube. It has to go back to the first stage. I don’t know if I’ll post the final pictures or not. I’ll have to see how I feel at the time.

Jugglerguy Thanks for your awesome video. Your camerawork was great. I felt like I was walking on the beach. I used to do that a lot, so it's embedded in my brain. I just haven't done it in a few years. Your video brought it all back. Lynn Thanks Lynn. I’m pretty new at the whole Youtube thing, so it’s good to hear that my camera work looked good to you. I’m using a GoPro and I’m finding it difficult to hold it straight,. Having the horizon in just about every shot makes it obvious when I am not level. I spent quite a bit of time straightening it on the computer, I hop to get out and make a lot more of rock hounding videos this summer.

I have had rocks dry out completely because the lid has popped off. In fact, this just happened with my latest batch of puddingstones. I had some larger that usual rocks in the batch and one pushed the lid off, even though it was secured wiht a rubber band. One rock was actually on the floor. The slurry was bone dry. I started squirting water in gradually and got it moving again. I have never not been able to get it rolling with water. I never pour in water, but give it a few squirts at a time and wait for it to distribute before squirting more.

I lost a lot of stars in the conversion, but I'm looking forward to Christmas! Hi Rob, sorry about the loss of stars but that's a good point you bring up and one I intended to mention why. From a programming standpoint I like things to be visually orderly and it has always bugged me that maximum stars (14 or is it 13?) didn't fill the space ... the space being nine stars across. So the choice seemed to be increase it to 18 and fit two rows, or reduce it to 9. Honestly it could have gone either way and it still can if folks feel strongly about it. My personal opinion is I think 18 would be too many - I mean who cares once you get up around 15 right? I think the new way is fine. I was just joking around. I like the fresh new phrases.

Hi Doug, welcome to the site. There's a slag glass here in Michigan that sells for big bucks. It's called Leland Blue and is very popular.

Hi Driver, welcome to the forum. You got some good advice above. I made a video that shows lots of detail about how I tumble rocks. I like my rocks as perfect as possible, and I’m willing to put in the time to get them that way. You do not have to make yours perfect but it might be useful to see what goes into producing a finished product, I use the products Dave suggested above, Lortone barrels and a Lot-O vibratory tumbler. The first state is the same even if I was using a rotary tumbler all the way through. The Lot-O just speeds things up.

Chuck taught me to run them shorter in the 500, 1000, and polish stages to minimize undercutting. Just one day in each of those stages. Otherwise, everythIng is the same. Oops. Number 6. That is one I would not let go of. Chuck That’s what I figured you meant, but you left me wondering! I’ll hold onto that one.

Nice work. I haven't looked at your video yet, so I'm hesitant to ask. Did you do anything differently with your recipe/regime since you were dealing with softer stuff? Chuck taught me to run them shorter in the 500, 1000, and polish stages to minimize undercutting. Just one day in each of those stages. Otherwise, everythIng is the same.
