Just a little obituary for my trusty little plastic screaming banshee of a tile saw. MK-145 - solid made, proper little worker that one!
I was using it, and it was whining away as usual, and then it was making a different sort of whine, even when I pulled my rock out, and then it made a couple "chunk chunk"ing noises, and started to smell that overhot engine smell, and then it went into another different death moan, and then I shut it off.
No obvious problems with blade stuck or spinning on shaft or anything like that. Don't know much about motors, and am certainly not going to take it apart and start tinkering around inside. I think this might just be its time. It has given me 5 1/2 years of good use, cutting unknown hundreds of preforms and small rough. I guess that's enough for a $100 saw.
RIP my first saw!
PS - Should I bury it in the back yard? That would sure confuse somebody in 50 years digging a flowerbed!
(PPS if anybody wants it for parts or likes tinkering, I could bring it to Quartzsite.)

Bitch-in! That came out great! I love that it looks like the grapes are spilling out the bottom - gives a sense of motion, and unexpectedness. That should sell in a snap!

Very cool. I like the natural edges on the agates in the second picture.

Yup, I was just going to say, "Sweet Stone Canyon!" I guess it could theoretically be something else too though.

Oh, I get it now. Yeah, I grind that down. Mostly because mine always end up crooked. In my comment before I thought you were talking about the line which is the second from bottom horizontal line - I grind that round too.

Yup, that's a classic Peruvian Blue Opal. No play of fire. From the Andes, although haven't heard it called that. This one is bluer than most - more chrysocolla in it. The greyish part and the brownish part, in layers, are hallmarks. This looks just like what I saw in Tucson a couple years ago. It's very soft, but works up just fine in my experience.

There's something about finding an honest to goodness fossil. Someday I hope to find one too!

Yeah, I like it but can't tell much about the geometry. Set it on your desk and eventually it will tell you what it wants to be.

rockjunquie, do you mean the vertical line, where two sides of the cab meet (like at the tip of a teardrop), or do you mean the horizontal line where the vertical (or almost verticle) sides meet the base of the dome?

No I don't have a groove grinder. Could probably mount something on the Ameritool though. Or, Jadecarver might have a wheel like Adrian describes.
Thanks Adrian.

Thank you adrian65 for sending those pictures! Absolutely stunning inspiring work. Can I ask what equipment you use to grind those small inside curves? Like on the blue lace/pietersite piece and the yin yangs. Thanks!

Yes, Ali, you should go. The area is beautiful even if you don't find any good rocks! Tommy, show her some pictures of what the skin of the plasma agate looks like, since it's kind of different. Ali, you can find beautiful serpentine and jade in the creek too. When I went a couple years ago, there was a collecting limit of 1 five gallon bucket per person. Kris Rowe goes there every year with his club.

The description for the basic grinder says "Angle Template Kit attachment for getting 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90° cuts." Does that mean the templates are included? I can't tel what they look like. Rockoonz's pictures help but I still can't picture it.

Did either of you order the doohickey that lets you use all sorts of angles?
