The election will be done tomorrow.
I imagine my phone will ring less often.
I imagine the media will have to find other ads to run.
I hope the people of this country can unite around the winner.
I hope we can continue to enjoy peace... at least in North America.
I hope people will be more civil to each other and more gracious when they differ.
I hope congress can start functioning for the people, opposing partisan politics. It is easy to find fault with the other side; it is hard to work with the other side and find solutions.

I've read here that copper is tougher to solder than silver. Is nickel "silver" any easier? The nickel is obviously much cheaper than sterling so I thought it may be a better alternative for practice.
Interesting...most smiths learn on copper rather than silver due to price and I feel it is very easy to solder, somewhat harder to clean up silver solder on copper. I generally patina my copper and it (color difference) is rarely an issue. It may be illegal (I dont recommend or condone illegal activity) but I've heard of people using pre (1982?) pennies for solder on copper successfully

Microsoft argggh!
Me suspects that, just like many other techhies. Use these upgrades to change your settings and become the default apps. overriding your current settings.
My wife had that happen to her laptop the other day. I had her resist getting changes she didn't want for a long time but "it just happenned" like it did to you one morning.
One of the last Microsoft innovations I had to master in the last ten years or so was dot net as a development platform. I had to remake myself as a dotnet and C Sharp guru to be desireable on the jobs market. Due to these "innovations" tech companies are able to increase the number of Green cards and other tricks, like outsourcing to give away American jobs. I guess that, like shopping at Walmart, we are our own worst enemy when it comes to being American and promoting the USA. (Or maybe being American and Capitalist is exactly what we are doing)?

Is it important that Ted Cruz' father was with Lee Harvey Oswald? Pretty good analysis. But is it important? I have no opinion. Do you? Opinion is all we have here Scott... I suppose that in most cases I would not blame the son for their father's transgressions but there is the hypocrisy angle. Ted, having had a pretty cushy life thus far, chose to run on his Fathers story. If your reference is to be believed, his Fathers story becomes a huge liability and has relevance. Is there actually any truth to it...at this point we don't know that there is anything more to it...I expect it will be investigated further. Everyone loves a good conspiracy story What we do know is that Donald spread this rumor and he has been disingenuous in his treatment of others. Charlie

I have taken prilosec, nexium, zantec, pepcid . Mostly prilosec and zantec and find them to be much more effective than Tums. I read the same articles a couple of months ago and only use zantac and tums. Some years ago I was taking both prilosec and zantac (for a conddition that required surgery). But now I take only on demand which is just a couple of times a year and I doubt it really matters what I take.
I have been very cautious about taking anything that requires long term meds. We always find out later about the "unknown" or "suddenly revealed" side effects. When arthritis started to become a problem years ago I rejoiced when Vioxx and celebrex were discoveredand I took every day until the heart issues side effects became widely known. Sidenote, I still take advil for occasional pain, so how safe is that.
I took lipitor to lower cholesterol for a while but decided that was too risky to take that long term. And I wonder if just lowering the number is important? Lots of people take medication for high blood pressure. I know people who take more than one daily. I wonder how smart that is. On my wife's Mothers side, all the women live to be about 100 and they all have high blood pressure. Her Grandmother loved the fat on meats like prok chops and ate it all the time. So does lowering high blood pressure matter for everyone or only certain people? ( and do they rig the clinical trials to especially accept people like the females in my wife's family who can live to a ripe old age even with the condition?

My friend was 92 when he passed. He had a rock shop for many years. Cut a lot of rocks. He died of lung issues that were related to rock dust so the doctor thought. He said that he went through phases over the years when his lungs bothered him, namely when he ran a dry high speed lapper. He would turn it on and let it run overnight. He had run it and quickly learned that the dust had effected him and stayed away from it. Cabbed/sawed/lapped/ did it all. Found that his lungs were in bad shape letter in age. Old school guy, probably avoided breathing protection for several decades. Concerned about farmers plowing fields on dry windy days. Lots of rock dust in that operation. My dad passed at 76 , my Mom is 92 and I plan to surpass that so I better start using the damn respirator. I teach several classes both indoor and others outdoors, weather permitting (Cabochon making including grinders and rock saws, water coolant. I don't use a respirator but do introduce my students to using them and have both the canister and more simple dust masks and demonstrated them both while explaining that the canisters had a much better chance against small particulate matter from rocks. Ie that the others where probably useless. One student did challenge the notion that water would be effective against certain toxic rock dust and she was correct. charlie

If you dont have it all the time, you love those military monstahs flying overhead. Enjoy if while you can and if you can.
We used to(before Y2K) get the Thunderbirds every two years here at Hanscom AFB but not any more. Was always a great time for parties; usually on or around 7/4. I miss them.

I read that pet wood can be found in every state...I imagine that would cover petrified palm too...
(I have also read that it doesn't always take millions of years to make Pet Wood, if conditions are right.
But rockhounding is much better in states where there is more federal land.
Once land becomes private, rockhounding and mining tend to be off limits to the general public.
In the NE, it is virtually impossible to find new and abundant rock hounding grounds.

They are quite the Blue everyone wants.
I have a piece of Lapis I'm dying to start on, thanks for the inspiration.
Curious why you mark the major and minor axes on the grinding face?

What is the best way to tumble petrified wood? Pet wood takes a great shine but takes some time in a rotary usually 3 weeks to get the right shaping. After that it is not particular. It vcan be tumbvled with other hard rock like agate and jasper. Some grain and chipping occurs and can be frustrating. Some of the nicest to tumble is the light tan pet wood from Southern Utah Charlie

Nice stuff! I really need to make time to drive on over there when I visit in the summer. Bit of a drive from Missoula County though oh how I'd love to live in Missoula...I'm a tree girl and I miss them. Trees are few and far between but the Yellowstone River makes up it. Its a great place to spend my days:) I loved it in Missoula...I guess I'm not the only one...Clark Fork Forever Charlie
