If it was me, I would put it back in coarse until it’s rounder. Everyone is different about when they move rocks on from coarse. I tend to let them roll until they are free of pits and mostly rounded. In agate, I watch for the small, low-angle cracks to disappear. They are the flaws that drive me crazy. I have been accepting of some pits in the Lake Superior Agates I’m working on. They tend to have pits with colorful weathering inside.
It’s an attractive rock. I’m certain it will turn out great. Looking forward to the progress.

What a show! Everything looks great. I think I was most drawn to the mix of smalls but there are a lot that caught my eye. You really knocked that batch out of the park. Thanks for showing.

Interesting video. The machine looks very accurate. It seems like a facet machine could be adapted to work. The size of the slides might make it tricky. I assume you’ve tried a standard cover slip.

Polishing flats is tough to do. During the limited faceting I’ve done, I noticed that the table was the toughest facet to polish. Smaller facets were much quicker. I also took a shot at polishing a flat on the back of a star corundum cab. It’s bigger than a quarter and there was a lot of time involved in getting any kind of polish. I took it to 100k diamond on a ceramic lap. I’ve only looked at it under 10x.
It seems like facet machines hold such a precise angle that you can approach “perfectly flat”. I’m not sure that’s possible by hand.

Wow! Some great looking rocks in there. Hard to pick favorites, but I really like the Bahias, especially the one highlighted in the video.
Thanks for showing.

@hefty
That sounds very interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing some photos. You definitely have the range of magnification covered.

The colors in the slab are incredible. How big is it?

Garnets certainly are fascinating. I wonder how many doctorate degrees have been awarded based on the study of them.
The Idaho Almandites (?) I have are slightly attracted to strong magnets. There is a pretty wide color range in garnets from the Emerald Creek mining area as well.

That is some nice looking agate. I don’t think I’ve seen that material before. Nice polish too.
