We found this in an area where I don't think it should be. We are traveling the West, and rockhound when we can. We were staying half between Santa Fe New Mexico and I-25. Behind the Rv park is the dried up river bed where these were found. They are a 6 or 7 mohs. All the pictures I found of Unakite look like these rocks. The smaller one near the top middle was polished, and shines well. What do you think?

The town is Mendora. The a & s are too close. Can anyone tell me what the multi rounded pieces are called?

imgur.com/a/kn1XCJust finished working on the flint we picked up at Nether's farm. The agate piece did not come from there. We are happy with it.

Yesterday we went to Mason Mountain Gem Mine in North Carolina. $ 30.00 per person for all you can dig. The pile from the mine is not salted, but you can buy buckets that are salted. We don't like salted buckets, so we went for the native pile. You can find all the rhyolite you want, and good stuff. Many good size rubies and sapphires. Between the two of us we have over 30 of each. The family owners and the helpers are the nicest and helpful people you can find. If you come down here go here first, or before you leave. Our largest Sapphire was over 3500 carats. The second largest this year. imgur.com/Yj8RZlP

How about we call it salamander jasper? It looks like the yellow spotted salamander. By the looks of the outside I do think it is some kind of wood.

No it did not scratch with a knife. It also did not scratch with an agate.

I used mineral oil, and it worked well. I cut about 100 pieces. I used water and soap next. (the blade a 301 was getting to show ware). Then the cutting edge came off. Got lots to work on this winter.( if I am not on the beach.

I have a slant lap, and want to try using a wood disk to polish with. What can I use to make the diamond powder stick to the wood?
