Thanks for the trip to beautiful Oregon. Just a suggestion - make the scenes a little longer & let us see each slide for a little more time. Lynn

Well after some thought and sketching and input from some of you. I came up with exactly what I did not think or plan. I had planned out a Rhodonite pendant with a piece of dangling turquoise. After getting things laid out. It turned into a Rhodonite eye with a turquoise tear drop. I guess? No turning back now. I just went with it. In this last photo the top right image shows the image of the pendant it was going to be. I stamped my love in the band. Inspiration takes a left turn! Great idea & work. Lynn

melhill1659 - Do you have the little piece that chipped out? If so, you could glue it back in and touch up that stone on the high grit wheels, then polish. Good luck with the Guild! BTW, what's the stone that broke? Lynn

Coxxxy - Those Frantoms are made for 8" wheels. I'm not sure what you will accomplish by raising the wheels except for hitting the inside of the hood. Or do you want to raise everything but the trays? Lynn

beefjello nice tour! Thank you. zarguy the Indian Blanket vendor is Zion Prospector (Todd Harris) out of Springdale UT. This year's guide book for the Tucson show listed 54 different venues! Best advice...leave the credit card at home! Thanks. I know Todd. Nice guy. He's the guy who discovered Tiffany Stone while working at the Brush-Wellman mine near Topaz Mtn. He spoke at our rock club meeting last summer & told us the history & gossip about Tiffany Stone. BTW, Kendall Gardner, the owner of the Indian Blanket Jasper mine passed away last fall. He was too young to go (early '60s). I think Diabetes got him. He had 1 1/2 legs amputated a few years ago. I got to go to the mine, meet him, and buy some rough before he lost his legs. If I leave the credit card at home, I might as well not go! I always see stuff that I want. Then I buy some of it. I can't help it. They're so beautiful. Lynn

Cherry Creek & some Oregon/Idaho picture jasper. Not Picasso Marble. Sometimes Cherry Creek is sold as Multicolor Picasso Jasper. Lynn

beefjello - Brian, thanks for the photos. It's good to see that someone has Indian Blanket jasper for sale. It's the stuff between the Dino Bone & the Tiffany. Did you catch the name of the vendor selling it? Lynn

Well... If that don't beat a "Dead Cow"! Last night about 10:45 my hubby got a route.....So that means he had to work today, he was supposed to be off! I am fit to be tied! Can't go tomorrow, it's supposed to rain all day and I got to take my son to get a suit for a job interview. Oh well...I guess we weren't supposed to go today. I do want to Thank everyone for their suggestions on where to rock hound.I'll write them all down, locate on a map and plan it out for when we do get a day to do this. Plenty of pictures of course! Bummer about your schedule. The rocks will still be there an the weather will be better in the future. Lynn

sophia13 - I have that same saw. I'm not sure what springs you're talking about. There's a single spring on the lever that locks the sliding vise to the feed screw. Is that what you mean? If so, I could look closer at mine & see if there's a generic spring that would match it. Perhaps a picture would help. The blade splash guard may be expensive if you manage to find a source. You could make something out of sheet metal, or an old bike rim or fender, or even a #10 tin can. Lynn

It's not 3 positions. You can set it anywhere you want for an infinite number of speeds. From what I remember, it's easiest to change speeds while it is running. Lynn

See what Android or iOS apps are out there for your Nikon. I specifically bought my Canon because there was a good Android app to control it. It's called DSLR Controller. I've got a 7" 1920 x 1080 pixel tablet & use it to compose & expose my shot. No need to bend over & look through the view finder or at the small LCD. There's a 5x, & 10x zoom so I can really focus on small details.
Instead of a light tent, I use two architect's lamps with diffusers (paper towels!) taped on to soften the light. I lay the cab or jewelry on a table with the lights at a very low angle, on opposite sides. This puts the reflections of the lamps on the edges of the cab, and makes them skinny slivers, instead of large reflections obscuring too much of the stone. Lynn

Kai - Since you mention grinding it, too bad you didn't reshape it to a slightly smaller pyramid, instead of breaking it up. Lynn

I would suggest using Hxtal. Heat the stone under a lamp until it's too hot to touch. Use a toothpick to apply Hxtal along the fracture. Put it back under the lamp for a couple of hours to cure. It will soak in & make the fracture invisible. I wouldn't worry about yellowing, since it's only a fracture, not a large space being filled. Lynn
