Wow! So many really nice cabs! Thank you every one! I feel so honored. March, at least according to the calendar, means spring. In many places Mother Nature replaces the white stuff with green. And, there is Saint Patrick's Day with all of its green shamrocks and green beer. Anything green for March. Any shade and any amount...wouldn't want Glenn to break his resolutions too much. Thanks again, everyone! you just want me to cut my green and brown obsidian i found last year.. or jade like serpentine! I see how ya are Sure! Sounds great to me.

The pattern of the first one does resemble Kona Dolomite, but the Kona I have worked is much softer--around 5.5.

I love winter! At least I do here in southern Arizona where ice and snow can be found in stone! We found this chunk of 'I dunno' with agate in an estate box. The agate is the expected hardness for agate and the 'I dunno' is a lot softer, making it a challenge to work together. The 'I dunno' reminded me of ice. I didn't notice the sparkles in the ice until I was working at 1200 grit. the slab the plan the cab the cab on a different background--trying to capture the sparkles

Look for slag glass or cullet glass. Both are available online and at gem shows. Some is modern. Some is old...for example Leland Blue and Frankfort Green are from iron smelters in Michigan that shut down prior to 1900. The is also some on the market from a 700 year old Copper mine in Siebertal, Germany.

Worse than the defatting in your hands is the fact that whatever you absorb (through skin AND lungs) collects in your endrocrine system and your body cannot get rid of it. This causes organs like the liver and adrenal glands to stop functioning. My mother is primary adrenal insufficient due to exposure to aliphatic hydrocarbons. Please believe me when I say you do NOT want this type of damage to your body. Much better to live with the rock snot or do the scrubbing!

Time. Even though I'm retired I am responsible for meal preparation, necessary gardening and cleaning and shopping. I cherish my shop time that happens in between those required domestic activities. Sure, grinding some rock (making cabs) can relieve some stress. But for me its the constructive things that help restore a better attitude.
