The glass is looking great. I like the vase material the best. I like the fact I am able to fuse. Will soon attempt some more attractive creations. Or simply slumping the glass blowers fine work(like cheating ha). The vase glass is often a lifetime of experience. Don't figure on ever competing with a glass blower or machine. Interesting how he laminates an entire sheet into a geometric form that is consistent over a big piece of glass. However there are plenty of jewelry fusing tricks that can't be accomplished by other means. James, the bead glass From China has a very metallic look. Just like hematite. What the heck makes that ?

108 three gallon pots @ 16 pounds each = 1728 pounds 14 bags of clear glass @ 38 pounds each = 532 pounds Total glass picked up yesterday is 2260 pounds, truck was way over. About 2 more loads like this from this glass blower. Lerio brand nursery containers good for 15 to 20 years in the sun. Holy cow!! You were not kidding! Makes me sad to see some of the companies going out of business. Yep, the decorative glass business is catching it from all sides. The glass blowers have a hard time selling vases and plates. Lamp shades and pot pipes are hot. Even stained glass is slow. The reduced demand for glassware is probably the worst hit. That pile of glass goes back 22 years, Janke's career. I asked him to consider letting me use his name if I get into selling jewels made from his scraps. There was a buch over at the studio. Havin a good ole time, festive bunch. He is open to public Tues Thurs Fri some Sat. when he also does classes.

Glass goes back 100's of years. All the crap coming in from China really hurt them I think. You can get pretty decent decorative pieces for cheap. Went to a restaurant today and the whole entire ladies room was broken up glass grouted on the walls. I was in there awhile looking at it. TMI maybe? But it was pretty cool Gave me ideas if I ever win the lotto

They used to let me have it because it did not fit in their melting process. Some as big as basketballs. Well the landscapers found out about the source and started paying Strategic big money for it. Client's pay big money to have chunk glass in their landscape. Will be getting more of this, easy to fuse but has surface roughness so tumbling required. Liking the opaque(called slag in trade). var. "Evil Eyes" Front then back: Front then back:

I would of needed an engraving tool and sadly I left that at home It seriously was a beautiful wall. I find pleasure in such simple things. Did you see how many they have sold? Seems to me they are doing quite well. I love those pieces. Reminds me of funky buttons. You got to get the selling side up and running

MsAli, I tinkered with fire pits 6 years before getting serious about selling them. I try to figure out the market, demand and #1 is source. I have always started a business(3 of them)) based on a freaky cheap source of something I can modify or produce. I'm not bragging or nothing, just expressing the fact that a good cheap unique source makes a successful business about 10 times easier. And this glass situation is prime example. I'd have to be a moron to not at least recuperate my investment. Figuring much better than that. Guess I am confident that my jewels will sell. Couldn't sell rocks very well. Hard money IMO. Rocks and glass more of a hobby anyway. I thought about the glass mural and not being able to put your phone number on the wall. Maybe the next one will have sheetrock walls.

The glass supply close home is closed weekends being more of a wholesale location. My 2nd visit there, first visit I entered the side door accidentally where a half a dozen middle aged ladies were renting the equipment and/or give lessons on glass fusing. They sort of pinned me up in there showing me how to fuse glass and their creations, I guess it is not so much a male activity. Cake and coffee and they nursed on me lol. So after I made my purchases in the store yesterday I went back there to gift them some glass tumbles for their lessons from last trip. Cake, soft drink for me, and they were drinking out of flasks and were half looped lol. Moral of the story, if you are looking for a date go to a craft learning center where you are the minority gender. Meat on the hoof so to speak. The lady's room was the wrong spot eh ? I suppose any restroom is the wrong place lol.

Sorting sorting sorting 18 pound barrel yields 5 pounds of glass ready to move to next step. Glass will disappear before you know it in step 1. Another 2 pounds of re-meltable glass sawed stupidly sawn from brick too thick is still too thick, chunks too big. Must saw smaller and re-melt, then put back in tumblers. This 1.3 pounds is from the thick section of fine vases. Too thick for pendants and not melt able. Will set them aside for cabs if such a market is out there. Or manually grind thinner and put back in tumbler. The other 9 pounds needs more tumbling. Basically I am working my ass off but producing at a high rate. NOT passive like rock tumbling. Need lots of space to separate stock in various stages and needs. This is one of four large rotary barrels. Me busy. Constant wash outs for sorting requires recapturing unused abrasive so a big 'mud' tub is collecting thick muck full of abrasive that gets separated every month or so.

I have seen lots of glass cabs. Some great, some, not so much. I love this journey you are taking us on.

I have seen lots of glass cabs. Some great, some, not so much. I love this journey you are taking us on. I am discovering another big gap in fusing. Lots of non-hobby glass fuses great or should I say 'slumps' great but has an unacceptable finish. Being able to do mega variations of odd ball fusions and then tumble polish them is a game changer. Things keep falling into my favor fernwood. I collected 1000's of pounds of rock and had tumbled the best of them. Most is only good for road gravel and it is being dumped to make space for glass. Need the space to organized this glass operation.

I can only imagine that your poorer quality rocks are better than most.

I can only imagine that your poorer quality rocks are better than most. Mostly local coral that is drab in color. The outer layer has color that must be hammered off to get any color worth a darn. So there is tons of coral cores made naked by a chipping hammer. The Rio stack won't be going anywhere

Can't think of any craft learning stores that would be filled with men though.....but its a good tip for you single men☺ Writting your number on any bathroom wall is never a good idea.....can honestly say I've never done it.

Got to be a bunch of man groups to play with out your way. Them home maker ladies were aggressive lol.(Had to watch my backside) Got two neighbor wives I used to take rock hunting and arrowhead hunting regularly. They were tough, never complained, adventure driven. Remembered to bring all the stuff needed.

At least I can be the cool mom right? I need to find my own BF to do that with. jamesp said "The Rio stack won't be going anywhere" I was planning on make a trip over to your place and pick up all those Rio's and all the other rocks you have laying about. Now that you're into the glass you need all those rocks out of the way. It's the least I could do to further your glass obsession!!

Certainly you don't want to come this far. Y'all got fine rocks in all directions. It was fun stealing them from your state though. Crossed the border into Louisiana and never looked back mission accomplished. Other than Rio's most of the rocks worth tumbling are getting few and far. Pulled these out today in a sort-clean out and the melted ones came out of the kiln this morning.

I must have been thinking "Men's clubs" - just as good Better if you dress skimpy at the Men's Clubs, maybe that is not such a good idea... OK, if you can shoot that good those guys should have been drooling all over you. Do you take hints ? Are you aware of your surroundings ? Can you tell when a man has an intense interest in you ? Down in the south those 3 guys would have probably gotten into a fight over you just saying. Perhaps you need to open your eyes a bit. Made 3 huge revelations in the tumbling/fusing/prep. skinning cat best way

Those guys up shooting were all married and you know my thoughts on that. Plus I'm really not all that worth fighting over And, Yes to all of the above. My eyes are open...and I know and do have offers but No one's come along that I'm interested in. Well that' s not totally true....1 was married, (which I didnt find out about until 3 months in) 1 is still in love with his ex (the video game nerd) so I kicked him to the curb and 1 lived too far away. Just isn't the time yet I guess. It's all good. I'm happy and loving life as is
