Well Don, the box is scheduled to be picked up tomorrow ( Monday ). Here's my pics.... First, What I took out.... Rose Quartz, a piece of BO, some snails, chrysocolla, etc... Some slabs and a couple preforms... ... and I just couldn't resist this slab, it is just too cool.... Next... what I put in... Some local mostly quartzy stuff, coral fossil, etc... Of course some flint ridge flint... I also put in some slabs, preforms, a few tumbled stones, and a chunk of marble counter top.... but I somehow lost those two pics, and I'm not about to unpack the box to retake them... So those will be a suprise, lol.... CHris

Well, here is the other wrap I was taking about.... I went about this one a little differently. I had no idea what I was going to do when I started, no sketch or anything. Really, I just wanted to practice some different weaves and stuff, but the wrap just kind of ended up developing a mind of it's own, lol ... The cab is sonora sunset cab I recieved from Lori ( sitnwrap, Thank you so much Lori ). I sure hope I did it justice... I have a couple of progression pics.... I started off weaving the 5 wires at the bottom together, and then wedged the cab in place. That left me with 12 ends to play with. Well, I wasn't to happy with how the bottom looked ( and I found a 6" piece of square sterling behind my couch ;D ). So, I made another weave and applied that on top of the first one. At this point I was a little overwhelmed with 22 wire ends just hanging out . But the bottom was cool. Well, I found a place and purpose for each and every wire ... The wrap kind of got out of hand, but I found a way to fill it out pretty well.... Aslo, I did my best to keep the cab front and center. I think it is an overwhelming wrap but without overwhelming the stone ( alot of intricate wraps I see just bury the stone ). Here's the finished product... It is suprisingly thin too, about 1/2" thick at the bail. And... the back. I thought for sure it was going to be a complete mess, but Amazingly I found a place to tie off every wire. No snags or anything. Actually it feels kind of silky in the back, as you always seem to be rubbing across a bind. Well, is it rediculous or what? LOL Thanks as usual, Chris

Hey guys, I haven't had much time for posting, but I have been wrapping a little here and there. This first one, I'm not to thrilled with. It's a quartz crystal wrapped in 20 ga red, 18 and 26 ga silver plated copper. I like how the top and the bottom came out, but all together... ... .. and the back... This next wrap in a cab from Don ( jakesrocks ) wrapped in 20 ga red and black, 26 ga silver plated copper, and the frame is 22 ga hard springy stuff ( my mom said it is half hard argentum ). I did another wrap like this ( if you remember ), but I turned the cab 90 degrees this time, and I simplified it by using only one wire for the frame.... The trick was coiling the black wire without scratching off the color. The coil is actually laced to the frame to hold it in place. Also, it was pretty tough coiling the 20 ga around 22 ga, I did scrape off a little color at the top and bottoms of the coils. and the back, oh so simple.... looking ... I have another wrap to show, but it's so rediculous that I'll save it for another post tomorrow...seriously, it's rediculous ;D... Take it easy, Chris

I got the box from Mark ( marinedad ) today... Diane and I had a great time going through the box of rocks. Sure is a bunch of neat stuff in there... We picked out a few things and added some things.. it's all packed up and ready to mail out to Don (jakesrocks).
I'll try to get the pics up tomorrow.

This is a tumbled slab of Arizona Rainbow wood... Lori's ( sitnwrap ) is right... slabs are fun. With all the odd angles there are so many different ways to securely hold the stone. Your only limit is your imagiation Chris

Yeah, I kept it simple on this one... A couple of days ago I scrapped a wrap I was about 3/4 finished with. It was quite complex with coils and weaves and stuff, but it looked like crap.... so I took my cutters and went on a cutting spree and freed the crystal. I was about 5 hours into the wrap, by the way.... needless to say, it was kind of frustrating I decided, that before I try that crystal again, I'm going to do a few quick and simple wraps... This one is a piece of brecciated jasper I got from my Mom ( I can't remember who gave it to her ) wrapped in 2 pieces of 18 silver plated copper, and 24 ga for the binds. Here's the back... I've pretty much completely hidden the wire ends, so this is really the other front. Can you find the ends? Chris

Hobby Lobby ( at least my local one does ) carries copper square and half round. They are sold together it a wire wrapping kit. I think it was about $8. Probably enough to do two or three wraps...

Nice work as always Chris. I have a question for you. On the "his" pendant I notice on the bail that the outside wire has two wraps before you go across on the weave but the inside wire only wraps once and then goes back. Why did you do it like this? I do not do any weaving yet so I am studying to learn how. Thanks Actually, if you look at the her's pendant it is kind of the same. Only the second wrap is what holds the coil in place.... Anyways... Good question Chris. I did that because the outside wire is longer than the inside wire. So, too keep the weave tight I had to add extra wraps to take up the space of the longer wire. It took me a little while to figure that out.... You have to do the same thing if the weave curves too. The outside wire is longer. Here's a close pic of the machete wrap I did.... I'm in a hurry right now, so that might not make any sense... Chris Attachments:

Oh, I forgot to post a pic of the back.... The rough pendant is almost reversable. The polished pendant got a little crowded and sloppy so, the back is the back.

I like how they match, but I'm on the fence about if a guy would wear a weave. Your work is amazing Chris. I also want to add your photography is fantastic too. That last pic is a perfect example in the study of depth of field. Nate What you talkin' about Nate? I'm wearing it right now... lol Seriously though, thanks... I'm still suprised how good my pics come out. Just a cheap old camera on a cheap little tri-pod, couple slabs, and sticky poster putty stuff sitting on some leather scraps ( thank you Judy ;D ) on the kitchen floor. Freaking Incredible, Chris! If I ever tried something like that, it would probably wind up looking like a plate of spaghetti! Lol... heck, at one point the polished one did look like a plate of spaghetti. At one point I had like 20 wire ends just sticking out!! It can be a real pain keeping everything from getting tangled up. Thanks, Chris

Hey guys, We had these two pieces of petrified wood that were just about the same size and shape. So, we tumbled one of them and kept the other one rough. I like the look of little pieces of rough petrified wood, so I decided to make a his and her's pendant set. His... I made this wrap somewhat simple and straight forward like the stone, but I did the weave on the bail so it would match the polished piece a little better... It is wrapped in 16, 24 and 26 gauge copper with 20 gauge dark blue ( I thought it was black... oh well, it still looks good ) copper ...And Her's. I made this one a bit more detailed and delacate looking than the rough piece. A little more polished. It is wrapped in 20, 24, 26, & 32 gauge copper with 20 gauge dark blue colored copper. Yeah, that right 32 gauge ... You can ( barely ) see how I tied the coil into the weave in this pic. This was an experiment, it worked out pretty well. Well, how did I do on these two? Do they look like they go together? Chris

I'm sorry Chris, I don't really like this one. Just being honest. I think it is all the extra wire in back. It is visible from the front with the stone being transparent and all. And I think it is just too much wire for the stone. It does look better from the side, you can see more of the stone from the side. Just my opinion. Very nice tight job on the weave. Thanks for the honesty Amy..... I don't like it either, all I see is a big messy wad of wire... Chris

Nice Chris! Your wraps look like they take FOREVER to do.... how long does it actually take you to do all that detail work? ~Krystee Yeah Krystee, some of them do take a while... The one with the four opals took at least 10 hours.... This one took about 4 hours, I did it in two evenings... of course that was 4 hours sitting on the couch in front of the TV with lots of distractions. I could probably do it faster with the stereo on . Looks like a cobra ready to attack ........nice job Ha, Your right Jackie ... the top does look like a cobra with it's head reared back. I like it when people see things in my wraps. To me it's just wire and a design ( except for the machete wrap ;D ).

Hey guys, Well, I finally bought a couple more crystals to wrap. I was told this crystal is Tibetan quartz. I wrapped it in 24 gauge and 26 gauge copper & 18 gauge and 24 gauge silver plated copper. It ended up alot like my last one, but with a little weave added here and there. I had a bit of trouble holding the stone in ( it has very little taper ), after I finished the wrap I noticed I could almost pull the stone out... not a good thing. So, I ended up adding a bunch of extra wire coiled on the back at the bottom. That crystal is now wedged in there tight as can be .... Here's a good shot of the weave from the top... ... and the back with a ruler.... See all the extra wire at the bottom? Well, how did I do on this one? Chris

Thanks as always guys... The weaving is still slow and tedious, but at least it looks good. This one was fun to do after that 4 opal monstrosity from last week. Definitely ready for the pro wrapping circuit!! Just bring the machete and you'll be on top. But where's the bail?? Definitely wearable for a man. Lol, here's a better pic of the bail.... I did hide it pretty well, didn't I? BTW, I'm actually trading this for a new water pump for my truck. Well, the labor at least, I still had to buy the pump... Ahhh, but at least I have heat now , just in time for it to get warm . Attachments:
