Have you thought about replacing it with black jade? Way less chance of it breaking or chipping. Jim I thought of a few different alternatives, but never thought of Jade. any suggestions where to pick up just a small slab, or even a cab I can re work? I have some killer Psilomelane, but the patterns in it are quite pronounced, so I ruled it out I might be able to fix you up. Send your address. I charge postage. Jim

@grayvingers Brookie fishing a small creek is one of the best pleasures in life. And they are yummy. I could not agree more. I go to a place where I have to mash down the barb on my fly to give the fish a chance. Way beyond fun. spiritstone I had not seen these before either. Thanks for showing them. Jim

Spray them with clear lacquer paint. It is not cheating if there is no other way and they will be gorgeous. Jim

I have had the same problem with tommy's photos. If I came back later they will show up. I think it has happened to a couple of other people so I think it is a forum problem.
From what I have been seeing of your work Tela you have not been a noobie for quite a while and if you have been saving the good stuff it must be off the chart because most of what you have posted so far has been pecstacular. Really looking forward to seeing the "good stuff". Jim

Sweet cabinet. I probably have that many in the works too but since I quit dopping I picked up a used vegetable and dip tray at the Humanity store and marked all the bins with a grit number. I end up with cabs in all the stages like you for many reasons and a few months ago I had bins running over so I had to finish some or at least move some along.
My biggest problem is working on a lot of other projects so the cabs sit for long periods of time and having the veggie tray with a cover helps keep them free of flying grit from the grinder/polisher. I was having serious scratch problems until I put the cabs in a covered container because my container sits right next to my machine. The velcro pads like to throw a lot of stuff around especially when grinding with a 50 grit pad.
Except for a few of mine it looks like you have a lot better material than I do. Some of the best I have is the jade that you sent to me long ago and most of it is either finished, waiting to be grooved or in the works somewhere. Jim

What really impresses me is your method. Why didn't I think of that? I have spent a lot of time getting a stone NEARLY straight on a reset but never straight straight. You da man. Or would it be you da mind? Thanks for posting that. Jim

You can see in the cross section it is not very impressive unless it is totally agatized. Way cool as a yard rock though with all the swirls. Jim

I make rings out of the blue G and it is tough as hell but drills and polishes quite easily. A lot of people talk about how hard jade and blue G is to work but I can drill three of those rings in the time it would take me to drill one agate or jasper. The blue G polishes easier than the jade though. The blue G I have has more yellow and less blue than what I would like but it still makes a beautiful ring. I got a mixed box and used up all the real blue stuff first.
There is an agatized pet wood around here that I have quit grinding because it takes forever and destroys my 50 grit velcro pads in a hurry. I would rather do a Montana than that stuff. Jim

Welcome to the forum captrandom. Unfortunately admission to failure seems to be an item swept under the rug. Walmart vs small store USA. Oversea products vs US products. Cheaper prices for people in a poor economy due to corporate super efficiency at the cost of US jobs. A vicious circle. Powerful corporations have turned us into slaves and indentured servants. Pawns. Power and money in the hands of a small group. Free enterprise apparently makes it all legal. Talk about killing morale. Bailouts shed light to the entire country in cap letters. In yo face. Shrewd corporations. Impressive but destructive strategy. Forefather Thomas Jefferson: " Thomas Jefferson, one of the founders of the United States democratic system, said "I hope we shall take warning from the example and crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength, and to bid defiance to the laws of their country." Later years: [3] Franklin D. Roosevelt, in an April 29, 1938 message to Congress, warned that the growth of private power could lead to fascism: [T]he liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism—ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.[4][5][6] [...] Statistics of the Bureau of Internal Revenue reveal the following amazing figures for 1935: "Ownership of corporate assets: Of all corporations reporting from every part of the Nation, one-tenth of 1 percent of them owned 52 percent of the assets of all of them."[4][6] Dwight D. Eisenhower criticized the notion of the confluence of corporate power and de facto fascism,[7] but nevertheless brought attention to the "conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry"[8] in his 1961 Farewell Address to the Nation, and stressed "the need to maintain balance in and among national programs -- balance between the private and the public economy, balance between cost and hoped for advantage."[8]" Read more en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_capitalismAgain my lack of eloquence had defeated me. I have been trying to point this out for what seems like forever but have not been able to get my point across. Your post hit the proverbial nail on the head and I thank you for that. If people would start watching a few documentaries instead of the trash that is on TV now days it would be very enlightening but who wants to watch something educational when they can watch a woman with a grotesque butt and her family. Part three of the documentary zeitgeist:themovie covers this quite well but it may give you one of the "I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it any more" moments even though there is little that can be done to prevent it now. Corporations and the uber rich own the government now and actually have for quite a while. A lot of people get their panties in a bunch over the elections and it doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference who gets in because they are all bought and paid for. Well, all but Bernie but it is getting down to, a snow flake in hell, deal for him. The college that has correctly predicted the outcome of every presidential election for the last 120 years are probably looking at their first loss because they predicted Bernie this time. Very few win all the time and by far this is the craziest election I have ever taken part in. Jim

About a 45 minute drive from where I am living now (where I used to live) there is an area where you can pick up pickup loads of the stuff that has the swirls on the outside of it. A lot of the people in the towns of Greybull and Basin have areas in their yards stacked full of it and some of the pieces would take two people to carry them. We set a new mail box post and stacked a bunch of pieces around it for added support. The pieces with the swirls on the outside are impressive
I think there are a couple of pieces laying around here so if I can find one I will send it to you. It either is or is close to the longest living thing on the planet because they are still alive and well ......... somewhere that I can not remember. Jim

All the stromatolite I have found here has been either all shades of tan (nothing that dark) or a mix of tan, yellow and red but that is all from one area.
There is a half circle with a cone at the top (like a volcano) straight out from the base of your hand that looks like a few small pieces I have found in the round but only that with nothing attached. I do not have a clue what they are but the similarity is interesting. I had one around for a long time just as a curiosity piece but have no idea where it went.

--Strange that he would live one way and advise to live 180 degrees out.-- After reading his thoughts on say the lady subject I believed that he experienced what was said of him. Some subjects only a man can understand. And his male perspective sounded bang on. By the same token his knowledge will put you on some if that is what you want. Glad you key pointed the 180 thing. Not to sure sex has much to do with liberal/conservative left/right religious/non-religous. Kinda dances to it's own drummer. Approach your next lady with this approach(if you haven't already): " The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife." I guess that means that if one or the other is not in the mood you best get in the mood. Male or female. Curious concept. Strange concept to me unless it is translated to "no means no". I have lived by the rule that no means no whether it is wife, girlfriend or stranger and have never veered off that course. It is a matter of respecting the other's wishes. If I do not feel like it (really, it has happened ) and turned it down why should it be any different for her. A friend of my wife told us about her husband poking her in the back with his finger until she gave in or went ballistic. How romantic is that? hahaha The marriage did not last very long after that started. Jim
