Where did they go. I want to see them. Tommy rocks are some of my favorites. Jim Hi Jim - welcome back! I don't participate in the political stuff and I know it had something to do with your leaving - but I want to say from a ROCK HOBBY standpoint which is what this board is about I think I missed you and always appreciated your input. Again, glad your back. Can you not see the collage picture? There's only one picture and it seems to be working fine for me and others. This is really weird. I can not see your photo or your avatar photo but I can see most others but not all. It may be something in my computer that is causing it because it happened one other time on another site. Second new computer in six months because my last new one got destroyed by a hostage virus. If that is happening again I am going to loose my mind. Okay, loose more of my mind. Be really careful about what you open and make sure you keep your photos and documents backed up on something because they encrypt them and won't reverse it until you buy bit coins. No guarantee the will reverse it either. I bought a new/refurbished computer this time for half what I paid for the last new one. We just switched providers and we are having a few problems with it so that may be the cause. Thanks for the welcome back. My plan was to keep my mouth shut except for the rock side this time BUT (always seems to be a but with me) I am not having much luck with my plan other than not letting someone get to me. I will say that I got a lot more done with rocks while I was gone. Starting to post a few things but I lost my photos taken after May of last year so I am trying to get my head above that tide which is a bit maddening because I do not like to do it twice. Gotta go and figure out this problem. Jim

I like the sphere and sandpaper trick. The top of my personal walking stick. Hollowed out rock on top glued down. The stick is quite tall so I needed to keep the weight down. Edited to add the flaming heart stone that is the eye. The top of a stick I made when I was in China. A finger to point the way and an eye to see where I am going. Unknown wood. I have started on a new one but I am probably a year or two from finishing it. Did some chisel work yesterday, inside, really windy outside, huge mess to clean up but sometimes you just have to do what the flowing juices tell you to do. All I have is boring before photos so far. It is diamond willow with a large knot of roots at the top so I am going to make it hollow on top where the fingers will go inside on one side and the thumb will go inside on the other side. Lots of room to release it and not loose a finger plus large enough you could take someone's head off with it in an emergency. Jim

At the encouragement of a friend I decided to show some of what I've been up to for the last month or so. Thought I would try the collage thing - I first tried Google's picasso but the file management structure in that program drives me stark raving mad so I ended up doing this by hand in Photoshop. Took me all day haha. If anyone wants a close-up added of a particular stone or an identification we'll have to wing it I guess haha. Enjoy. Where did they go. I want to see them. Tommy rocks are some of my favorites. Jim

Unless it's a very hot piece, storing it in a thick plastic container should keep you & your grandkids safe. If you have a UV light, see if it'll light up a yellowish green color. Thanks Don. I missed that in my research. Jim

True that. Any idea why he is not on? Jim

Wow, thanks for the welcome back and info. I think I have nitric acid but no UV light. I think I can get one on line pretty cheap.
Should the acid be placed on a natural surface or a new broken surface? If this is dangerous there is a small piece still in the garden that was broken off when the tiller hit it so I would need a geiger counter to find it.
Looks like my best bet would be to get the geologist at the college involved. Last year was the first time the area had been dug up for a long time so it is hard telling what or how much of anything is in there.
"gemfeller" Thanks. The dental test sounds like an easy one to do but I am thinking outside in a bucket covered with a tarp. Right now it is outside in the open where the grand kids can not get a hand on it.
"mikeinjsc" good to hear from you. I do need to make another trip up there to see y'all if the branches falling out of the huge elm tree because of the wind don't kill me first. Jim
I don't remember how to tag someone on here so a heads up would be appreciated.

You always seem to make the best stone choices Tela and that dendritic is tops in my book. I need to dig out a piece of the dendritic opal from my trip with Russ to Spanish Point and send it to you.
The reflection on that bloodstone is so strong I can see your nipple in it. Hey, I can not help my imagination, joking spirit AND dumb enough to admit it. Jim

My son picked up a rock that was kicked up by the garden tiller and couldn't believe how heavy it was. I started testing and digging in my book which has led me to believe that it is uraninite. There was/is a uraninite mine in Lusk Wyoming. The SG falls in the 6 to 10 slot at 6.97. Streak checks out with brown to black, the hardness is up there over six and it is not attracted to a magnet. It also looks like it is greasy about the same as a fairly dried up grease spot under a car. The only thing similar that I can find is way softer. This stone has been well washed so what you see is pretty much what was described in the book. If photobucket is working now I will try doing pics. A Geiger counter would be handy and I may be able to get close to one at the college here. Just not sure how much I should handle this thing. I volunteered to line up the grand kids and try to get an x-ray but parents are so protective these days. Anyone with some experience with this stuff would sure be a help and I would gladly pay you Tuesday. Popeye
