Ok...I realized I missed your original question when I went off a bit. Stupid drivers. They're my pet peeve. Plenty of 'em here. Dave No shortage of 'em.

Which one of us will distract him while the rest go for the rocks? Man there are some amazing stones there! Hard to believe they are real!

OK, so I decided to start a Flickr account so I could show pictures of my lovelies. But after I set it up the account with the code they sent me, I got another e-mail, supposedly from Flickr, that I needed to click on a link in order to be able to use my new account. So naturally I became alarmed and did not dare click on the link. Does this sound right to you guys or do you think it is a phishing attempt?

Anybody read "Last Go Round" by Ken Keasy? (Bad spelling.) It's very good, I recommend it.

Some people have been known to use sand. Downside is, it takes 10,000 years (give or take a century).

Grit is easy to order... and you will need more of it, at least for the coarse grind. Extra-coarse grade grit may not be worth your while as I believe it is only better than regular coarse in certain circumstances. Some people clean out every week and start over with fresh grit. The advantage, especially in later stages, is that you will able to get rid of any broken pieces of rock that might otherwise mess up (scratch)your stones. Some only do a complete clean-out between grit stages, instead preferring to get a slurry going that they may add (recharge)some grit to every few days. A little less work, as long as your rocks aren't chipping.

They said 3-5 days??? What did they send with it, talc? Try 3 weeks for the first stage... may or may not be enough. You will probably have to "refresh" or add more grit when you check it @ 5 days.

Update: In the end, I noticed the med. grit did remove some minor surface flaws -- more than I expected. But the major work happens with the coarse. When I moved them into the medium grit, it was with the expectation that I may just have to put up with some of the flaws, as my rocks were disappearing. I was pleased with the result.

Aw, I'd for sure like a small box of tumbling rough, but only if it won't make somebody else feel bad!

My prize came a few days ago. Randy was prescient and sent me some goodies with a Lot-O cap. Randy, give it to Rob. He is a gentleman and a scholar. 🏆 Haha, I thought you said, "Randy sent me some goodies with a lot o crap." Not awake here, people.

How is she supposed to get a job, when employers automatically assume her work ethic is problematic?

They are all Pretty Rocks. Are you going to make them Shiny Pretty Rocks? The top one looks similar to the Wisconsin pieces I got from Fernwood. Other than that, I got nothing.

The "egg" is not in the group of three, it is in the far left, middle height of the whole bunch

I'm going to guess... the little brown egg on the far left, and the flattish brown rock on the bottom left in the group of 3 browns.

"But I don't know how to do pictures!" she wailed. The result was: much smaller rocks than we started with. I had one beauty, my largest rock, with an amazing shine. It was so smooth it felt soft. The patterns and colors were so cool -- ochre, lavender, etc. And then (you knew that was coming--) and then the slurry got too thick and it tumbled loose of the slurry and got dinged. Repeatedly. And one of the dings opened a crack that then trapped polish. No longer contest-worthy But still nice. At least I get to keep it for myself. I will have to work on the pictures thing. Right now, 2 of my 3 brain cells are occupied with a very ill relative.

If I could figure out how to put up pictures, I would... I don't have a lot of fancy gadgets and I don't even understand much of the dialog relating to posting pictures. Just a rockhead I guess.

Accidentalrockhound! Surely you jest! Vast, vast areas of New York state have no resemblance whatsoever to NYC. Not the easiest rock hunting for tumbling material, however. I am on the Vermont side of Lake Champlain and tumbled some local rocks(fillers with my WWT contest rocks)with varying degrees of success. I did have a few orange and orange/white ones that took a wonderful liquid shine, so there are some goodies out there.

Had to take a peek... got a nice slurry going but a little too thick. Added some water and another tablespoon of grit. The colors are going to be really nice on these, they are already starting to pop. I'm excited to see how they will turn out. Now if I can resist the temptation to look for a few days...
