This is a really cool stone here. And what it consists of makes it that much more interesting. I have some similar material that is way to soft for tumbling that I should send you if you'd like. I don't know how to make cabs so I have no use for it if you're up for another challenge?

1. Mineral Explorers, what station is this on? 2. Prospectors, liked this one but it's cancelled 3. Gold Rush, used to like this, now too scripted 4. Bering sea gold, ditto #3 5. Aussie gold hunters, what station is this on? Gem Hunters, liked initially but sadly it's scripted IMO I cancelled cable so I can't specify what station they are on. I only have Netflix and Hulu. Aussie gold hunters is on Netflix im not sure of the station and Mineral explorers is one of my favorites so I just order it by season on DVD

Is there any health hazards that newbies should know about when cutting/tumbling/cabbing stones? My biggest fear is my lungs. I use a wet saw and I know the water keeps dust down but what about also using a respirator? I'm sure the dust from cutting has to be bad for you (especially certain rocks). I am no idiot and use eye protecting but what is everyone else's precautions when working with stones in all phases of Lapidary? I watch ALOT of youtube videos to help learn certain methods for certain things and almost all of them no one is using any kind of safety equipment. I don't live in a bubble but I want my 10yr old son to participate more in cutting and shaping and this made me think a lot more about any possibility of anything harming him.

mountainmanent , That looks like an HP combo unit I was restoring. It had a single motor to drive the saw & wheels. There are 2 knobs that you adjust to direct the motor to either side of the "transmission". I never finished refurbing it before I sold it so I could move. I had another, more modern HP machine for my next project. I'd love to see some closeups of the drive system from underneath. Pretty please! Lynn Yes this is a single motor with 2 different drive pulleys that the knobs control. When the knob is turned all the way clockwise the pulley closes up to make that side spin. When it is turned counter clockwise it opens the pulley up and allows that belt to slack up enough to not spin. I will get pictures and as long as they are not under 100mb I will post it.

Peruano what did you have to do to eliminate the buffer wheel and add the 80 grit wheel? Any modifications or did yours come like that?

Thank you all for the info. Actually the saw doesn't spray much at all. It has a blade guard that catches 99% of the coolant. But I like the idea of building a Plexiglas shield around it anyways. This particular model can be ran with just the saw or just the wheels,,they each have a knob that puts tension on and off the belt to engage or disengage them. What is the best source for diamond wheels? I knew I would get a lot of good info out of you all. Great group!!!!! Thank you

I agree with Scott, sounds like he is just making you aware that he lost his butt with shipping. At least I would hope that's the case
