How many here get excited when a small or medium or even large size box is on its way! I just got confirmation from the rock shed that my order is in the mail. I had asked them to please include one big Botswana agate and as I am looking at the invoice, there is a 1 pound Bot included and they only charged me $6 for it. I also got 3 pounds of tumble size Botswanas, a pound of black onyx, crazy lace, that South Dakota that glows under a black light (the kid will love it), a pound of Bahias and a selection of grits to try. Pretty soon I’ll be placing an order with Richardson rocks (after I clear it with my honey). I still laugh at myself, it’s hard to believe I spend so much on rocks, but then when I got into my other hobby it was hard to believe I was spending so much on RC cars… but man, both rocks and little cars put a huge smile on my face and seriously reduce my anxious stress levels, so all is good!

It's kinda like this! LOL Yeah, I checked the mailbox three times today though the package hasn’t even technically hit the road yet. I’ll probably do the same thing daily until it gets here. A 1 pound Botswana agate, I can’t wait to get my hands on that!

I get way too excited and have been spending way too much on FB auctions. I’ve heard about people having good luck at those. How do you find them? I know on Facebook but… in the marketplace?

The only one I've been going to is on Cabs and Slabs Slab Depot. It's on Saturday evenings. It's put on by Brian Rhode, Lapidary Central. He's a member here too. It's not actually an auction, it's a live sale.

Yes! I feel this way too!! Each time I get a package I will sit and examine each and every rock, wet, under a light, with my loupe haha! My daughter just rolls her eyes when a new box arrives - Don't you have enough rocks, mom!!??

Anyone else suffering from withdrawals? I went through a binge and ordered enough rough that it'll take me a year to get through with my current equipment. I'm already tempted by the snowflake obsidian ashley posted, but I don't dare do it, lest I lose any more space in the garage. I get a rush from buying more, but I simply can't! Gotta quit cold turkey.

Gotta quit cold turkey. Yeah it’s a problem. I’ve been through this with my other hobby and know how impulsive I can be, so I check myself often and am careful with my purchases. One trick is I never buy right after looking. I set it down for at least a day then go back to it. I find that I usually trim the purchase down by 25+% or don’t even order when I do it this way. I feel like I have way more rock then I need also (we self collect a lot and I trade rocks with people as well) but i also know the rebel 17 will chew through it quicker then I think. It’s the building up of rocks ready to move on to stage 2 that’s bugging me. I have 3 jars of them sitting in water. I need a bigger vibe lol. My raytech 5 can’t keep up with the amount and can’t fit some of the big rocks I have.

Also bought a quite a bit of slabs and rough from regular sellers on that site, plus Creative Slab Connection and Full Moon Rockshop (Roy's site).

I still polish stuff in my 3lb rotaries - I like it better for some material.

I don’t find it at all ironic or hypocritical that I just placed an order with Richardsons rocks immediately after discussing how I can control my urges to buy. Yup. Not at all. Of course I just blew my rock allowance for the rest of the year, but do I care? Nope. Because now I have two boxes on their way

But it drives me nuts because then I can’t use them for course runs with smaller agates. But I’m not buying any more new machines. I’ve learned enough to where I will be looking out for used ones that I can repair and eventually build my own six barrel Tumbler setup. Same thing I did with RC cars. After two years, I stopped buying new and just begin custom building them.
