I've been trying to figure out what to bring food wise. Firewood might actually be easier for me. Hey Mark K, I'm tentatively thinking about going to Burro Creek on Saturday. Any chance that you would be up to going then? I might just spend the night there. Right now I'm thinking of driving to Lavic Siding early Thursday. Hounding there for a few hours and sleep there. Up early and drive to Quartzite. Check out the shows on Friday and the get together that night. Burro Creek on Saturday, maybe into Sunday. Head back towards Quartzite. Maybe try to squeeze in a little time around Brenda. Hit Wiley's Well on Monday. Possibly spend the night there and head back towards home on Tuesday.

-11 is nothing. Try -25 to -30. Been there done that. Didn't like it. We got lucky. It was usually -20 to -40 when we were there. It will be -43 in a few days--ouch. I don't have a single piece of Brenda jasper through polish, but I have small batches of it at various stages, that stop and go when I can mix it with something that looks different and recover it after. I'm going to photograph these batches for you. We are flying and out of Las Vegas this time and hope to rockhound between there and Blythe a couple of days.

The weather report is looking pretty good right now. It does show a some clouding up and a slight chance of rain for the weekend of the 21st, but also shows 68 deg! I was expecting about 30 overnight in Lavic and now it's predicted to be a low of 44. Still cool but much better. Now if it's halfway accurate...

I’m consider Bringing an assortment of chips if that sounds good to anyone. If so lmk any requests; we like Doritos and the Lays limon chips.

OK, I am on my way out the door. See you guys in a few days. Drive safely Mark. I sure won't forget how heavily laden your truck was upon departure last year. We were worried you wouldn't make it back w/o a mishap. I just mailed my rock hammer to the Quartzite post office to pick it up when get there. Was pleased only cost $9. Would never be allowed in airline carryon. Normally I don't use it much in field work, but you said it can be really helpful in the desert to hit rocks now and then because of the heavy desert varnish that makes everything look alike.

Pulled into the Pow wow grounds Saturday afternoon, looking like the Joads just got off the banana boat.
Was in error in an earlier post. We're in space 367, Dianne will be in 366. Stop on by and say hi. Russ

Mark, here's the Brenda jasper I have in process from Quartzite last year. Anyone interested in this material would find some messages about us collecting it in the thread about Quartzite 2023. I forgot to put label in photo but this is still in rough grind. Some pieces look terrible for a long time then finally start looking ok. That colorful one on top I think is what you said is properly called Brenda agate and I think you have several like that you said. That one on the bottom left with all the agate bands was quite a surprise! Never saw that when I picked it up, nor even when I looked it in the hand later. It was only after the first week in rough grind that it started to show it's true nature. I'm obviously excited about that one. These are ready for 220. Some closeups of some interesting ones. Some have pinholes that just keep appearing, and eventually I might give up on them or grind them to nothing. None were in my ready for 600 next box, but there are ready for 1,000. None are ready yet for polish. Overall, I probably have discarded close to half the material picked up in the field. I cut around yucky porous spots many times and trying to save some. You may recall that rather large cantaloupe size piece I found. It was just riddled with porous areas and that's probably why a previous collector had left it in the wash for me to find. However, even though it was a mess to trim some decent pieces are left from it. Thanks again for taking Walter and I to get some of this!

Got the fixins for the Pasta Salad today. Ice bottles freezing for the cooler. Elizabeth is still healing from a pretty serious back strain, so she and Taco are staying home this year. Current plan is head there at Zero dark thirty Friday with the still unsold saw in tow, park said saw out front at the PowWow, and perouse the show, and off to Tony's for dinner and seeing y'all again. Their breakfast is pretty good BTW. Taking the van with an inflate a bed in back, so I'll find a spot nearby to legally snooze so I can take the desert garden tour Saturday before heading back so I can work Sunday. catmandewe I can bring a 3x5 ish digital picture frame with me that will work with a thumb drive or a SDHD card, which I have. If anyone can compile some pics I can set something up that we can run on random play, Tommy is that something you can find? Even a PM to steer me to threads to get some pics from. I have lots of pics of Ed, but a little help with the others would be good. Mark K I see you mention Morristown on your agenda, stopping at Jim's rock shop? I'm about 10 miles East of there right off US60. I might have an airport run if I get a call but so far I'm doing nothing but hitching up and whatever else to get ready to go.
