Guys -- I went over saturday morning to check out the area. There are lots of people there already. I'm planning to get there on Wednesday april 9th to get a head start. The area is very dry...there is no signs of water or snow for 50 miles in any direction. I was able to find some large chunks of moss agates about 5lbs each with translucent areas. I did not make it to topaz mt. there were some folks already there.
just a thought...a piece of topaz may be worth a couple of hundreds of dollars...so if we get lucky, or if steve can help us figure out the best places to look for topaz, gas may be paid for ;D
check out the pictures I just posted.
see you all there.

I will be arriving there on Tuesday or wednesdy myself. Planning on camping around Topaz Mtn if that is doable. Do you have any suggestions for me?

There are some good areas for tents on the south side of topaz mt. I will be there Wednesday myself.
See you there.

You're right Steve, we need some sort of a plan to meet up. You're the only RTHer that I've met, and I can't quite picture myself wandering around Topaz MT asking people if they've seen my group. ;D As far as the gas prices go, it's definitely going to hurt. Diesel prices aren't quite as bad here as in Tony's area (around $4) but still atrocious. But my wife and I will still be there, we wouldn't miss this for anything.

I talked to Ozzy a couple of days ago and he said he is going to make up some RTH signs to put on the main road and leave a trail of them to the camp site, I don't think there is an improved campsite there. (He said Orange posterboard, but they may be some other color, guess it depends on what he can find.) Here is a link explaining the camping situation www.utahoutdooractivities.com/topaz.htmlTony

Sounds like we'll be meeting out at Topaz Mountain. Is there a time we should plan on meeting there in the mornings so we all know where we're going?

I am leaving Idaho Thursday as soon as my wife gets off of work, she works till she is done so we dont know what time that will be, hopefully around noon to two pm. We have about a 7-8 hour drive, and will try to make it there Thursday night, if not we will be there Friday morning. I am just gonna hope to stumble onto you guys, or look for Ozzy's signs, he said he is going up on Wednesday.

The wife and I hope to be there Wednesday afternoon. We hope to camp just a little east of the turnoff for Topaz Mt. on the other side of the highway in a spot we camped in for a few days last fall. That way we can let the puppies out to run a little without them barking at all the new faces. If all goes as planned, we'll be about 1.5 miles east of the turnoff and up against the hills a little south of the highway. Look for a Dutchmen travel trailer with a red Ford Super Duty truck. Looking forward to meeting all that can make it.

My wife and I will now be there Thursday afternoon. While we were loading up we got a Recall Notice for the ramps to load my 4 wheeler on the truck rack. It seems that they collapse now and then. We have to push back 1 day while they get me a new set. I'm sure glad they told me BEFORE it happened to me ;D! Anyway we'll be on our way Thursday morning.

I'm also going to have my wife there and my brother..I know this will be a very fun filled weekend., Hope to see everyone there... We will talk when we are there as to where we are going to spend the time... As for food..I'm taking some hotdogs and soups to cook while there..nothing major...there is plenty of restaurants in DElta is anyone gets too desperate... If anyone wants to get a hold of me please call my cell: 801-717-8555

Heya all Just wanted to let you know that because of a shortage of funds and unreal gas prices, my wife and I will have to bow out. It really pains me to say so, but there's just no way we can afford the trip. We've even been trying to sell our old motorhome, but it looks like thats not gonna happen soon enough.
Since we can't go, please load up an FRB or two for me (I'll pay for shipping, if needed) with whatever you might find as well as a piece or two of topaz, if any.
That being said, I hope you all have a ton of fun and get a ton of rocks. Make sure to take alot of pics and post em.

I am honestly hoping whoever made it out to Topaz is having a Wonderful Time! I had to back out at the last minute due to work. We have a deadline job in Tooele working on a Larry Miller race track, and it's got to be done by the 20th. They are wanting 7 ten hour days from everyone...and they are paying all time and half and double time. The way construction and the economy is nowadays, I hate to say no to that kind of opportunity. I think I should host an episode of "When jobs get in the way of your Fun Plans"...because I could fill a show! I am sorry again for my plans falling through. I can't wait to see pics of the rendevouz...and hopefully of lots of cool rocks. Sorrry Guys! I was really looking forward to this trip too. Steve

I made it to there, unfortunately was there wednesday and thursday and did not run into anyone from here. Did get lots of topaz, jasper beans, apache tears, and other stuff. We left Calif on saturday so we could stop at middlegate for plant fossils, eastgate (common opal), Garnet Hill (garnet), etc so can make an interesting kit for kids at the local school.

Five of us went out on Friday. Didn't see anyone Friday morning from RTH, but ran into a great guy who showed us how to find topaz. Was a great experience for 5 newbies. We also went and got some Apache tears, and found some mahoghany obsidian.

We ended up finding lots of nice stuff, but a couple we could not identify. The first was from the west side of Topaz Mtn, around the Apache Tear area and seems to have some kind of fossil within it: Second from another area: i155.photobucket.com/albums/s294/wildshack/DSCI0101.jpgAny help identifying these would be greatly apreciated. Thank you Bill
