Tony (catmandewe) and me (rockwizz) are planning to get together for a great rockhounding experience here in Delta Utah. As you all know, Delta is the home of the world famous Topaz Mountains and the Thomas Range, and not to mention the Dugway geode beds.
Recently I have been over to Delta several times and my findings have been nothing short of amazing.
The agate from this region comes in all sorts of colors including Blue, Green, Moss, Brown, and stuff that looks like Oregon plume agate, there is also apache tears, jasper in different variaties.
The area is several thousand acres big and there is a lot of ground to discover the next big agate/gem mine)
I'm trying to get a feel for those that would be interested. I'm thinking if there is good response I can locate a good area where everyone can camp out , and maybe even try to get good rates in the local hotels in Delta which is about 40 miles from the area.
I'm thinking this trip would be great in the March early April timeframe.
Let me know who is interested.
[glow=red,2,300]AS WE CLOSER I WILL POST NTERESTING STUFF ABOUT THE AREA LOOK HERE FOR MORE INFO[/glow]
The best way to get there is to get to Nephi Utah, and then hit highway 128 until you get to the intersection of highway 174. From there is about 40 miles to where the action is. Here is an official map of the area
The hunt will begin in front of Topaz mountain, but we will have other opportunities to hunt for geodes, agates, jaspers, apache tears etc...
The trip has been unanimously set for :
Thursday April 10 Through Monday April 14
So far here are the participants:
Tony Funk (Catmandewe) - Idaho
Ozzy Henriquez (rockwiz) - Utah
Steve Holmes (steveholmes) - Utah
(Cina)
(MidnightRocks)
(AgateGrrll)
(colliel182)
(rallyrocks)
(wildshack)

I went to check out the area Saturday morning...there are a lot of people over there already. Funny but there is no trace of water or snow in the area for 50 miles in any direction...go figure...hot!! ;D
Anyhow...here is the place my son and I found which has some very unusual agates...sort of like desert roses from AZ and brown agates combined...really cool stuff. The temp. was a toasty 65 degrees saturday 3/22 so I think we should be fine to camp out on site.
