Thanks for the advice everyone ... Sorta almost finished the table today ... My Home Depot didnt have the hammertone but they did have hammered style paint by rustoleum ... I still opted for the rustoleum regular universal flat black spray though ... I spent a very long time trying to get the bottom perfectly stable since it has wheels for now ... If it moves too much and it might I"ll just take them off or do my other plan mentioned above .... Seems the price tag is getting up there ... But Iam having a learning experience tied in ... So far about 300 ... That will probably be near the total price by 70 bucks more .and diamond wheels which is still undetermined ..hopefully .... Greg ...Will get updated pictures up soon and a complete price list I am keeping and will post if anyone else decides to follow this approach .... Price list so far Highland Park Unit $ 200 motor $41.38 inc ship 2x4 wood $5 mostly cull wood (scraps) from home depot 5 wheels for mobile table $20 (not needed ) 2 w/ locks bolts and washers $6.42 cleaning supplies $6 spray paint $16 screws 2.85 more to come ....

okay ...Spent along time on the hp today ... started off with finishing the spray paint on the stand ... Thats done until I mount the motor ... Started the cleaning process... started off soap and water and 440 spray didnt work then with a light steel wool ...That didn"t work ... went to a 3m fine sponge for sanding that didnt work ... finally my neighbor pulled out a sander with wire brush on it and we started on a hood of the hp ...well it sure did work ... it took everything including the metal ... made it bare ..did half of that hood that way ...but I was worried about rust after going down that deep into the metal ..so we stopped after the hood ...Maybe I shouldnt be since its cast aluminum ..Iam not sure but we pulled out his pressure washer and that took it all the rock snot off in about an hour n half ....perfectly ... I noticed deep really pitting in the water tray areas ..and alot of paint chips throughout so I am going to go with the hammered paint .... Will probably pick that up in a few days ... lightly sanded everything down to rough up the paint so whatever I decide to put on sticks ... Some people tell me prime it some people say dont ...Besides that I noticed one of the support beams completely cracked in half but repaired ..Previous owner had no idea so it works fine liek this and has been .. I had the whole thing apart for sanding before I noticed it as well a crack in the pulley on the outside of the largest pulley about 2.5 inches long ... I am told the pulley can be replaced if it ever becomes a problem ..I think I seen one in King North ... As far as the beam if it was fixed once it can be fixed again ... I guess ... Okay will get more pictures up sooner or later ...Thanks everyone ... Greg

The hammer finish paint I use is no primer required. Some of the Rustoleums say Ă«ncapsulates rust". Those generally go without primer. ĂŹf it is all aluminum you should have a chalky white corrosion rather than rust. Once you try a hammer finish paint on metal surfaces you will be a believer. I tried it the first time because I wanted a factory finish. I think there is a green similar to HP green and the gold they used on the original two tone finish. Our local store only has a couple of shades of grey but they look nice too.

Okay a few updates ... The stand - has two locking wheels on the front only ... we will see if it moves too much .motor arrives tomorrow .. and if it dont rain I will be repainting the hp ...weatherman has been off for 5 days Iam hoping they are off for one more ... ...already painted some small pieces of the hp and yes everyone was right with the hammered paint ...seems amazing so far ... How worried should I be ?? Found this cracked and repaired after I pulled everything apart ... maybe jb weld??? ...Everything else looks really good ...Spins smooth from what I can tell looks straight and the pulley has a crack as well ...but That can be replaced if it ever causes a problem .......Also the other side is rotted/cracked size of a quarter near the bottom ... on the left side that sticks out west ...My camera battery died ...needs recharging ... Greg .....

I'd try it as is. Even if it breaks it isn't going to move. Is that cast aluminum?

yeah cast alum...and I was double checking the other side out of it and I dont think that side is cracked just the way it was made ...looks cracked but isnt ... holds pretty sturdy so the seal seems good ...

It may have been a crack in the sand mold those old parts were cast in. Clean the top of the crack with a small wire brush, and see how deep it goes. It may just be a casting defect, and nothing to worry about. Don

I'm enjoying watching this progress. So far all of my equipment has been in need of some TLC like this, so it's good to see another person's approach to this too. Keep up the good work and updates... it's looking good!

Depending on the power cord you have, one wire may be either red or white. There will also be a black and a green wire, Green is ground. If there isn't a ground terminal under the wiring cover on your motor, fasten it under one of the screws that hold the cover on. Then black goes to black on the diagram, and red (or White) goes to red on the diagram. It would be best to use crimp on fittings on the ends of your wires. Less chance of a wire shorting something out. When you have it all wired up, plug it in and check the direction the motor rotates. If it's turning the wrong way for your machine, swap the black and red wires. It's as simple as that. Don

A tape measure or ruler will do the trick. Just measure across the end of the shaft. It will either be 1/2 or 5/8 inch. ---- Don

Hey CaptBOB what size is the width on they expandable drums on the left side of your first machine pictured ..?? Going to try and follow the same route because as of now the right side seems unacessible to me unless I take apart the whole left side ... Either that or my hex isnt working correctly ...

messed up bad ... This piece in lines was hammered too much to the right ...I tried to hammer it back off and it split in two ... Its stuck there and that part of the shaft is rusty Cant get it off ... Is it replaceable ? In fact the bushing next to seems to have some play as well ... Is that replaceable in the near future?? ...Is that giant shaft replaceable if ever need be .. And one of the hex is stripped on the same piece on other side ..I havent played with the hex much wanna wait and see any tips on getting out before i really strip it down ...okay relaxed a little ... Any help now would be tremendously helpful ...If that piece isnt replaceable I can do w/o it I guess I could file and grind it off? ??... ...
