Here's a direct link to the Texas Petition: petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-texas-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/BmdWCP8BIt is by far the largest signature block with 16,000 signatures so far. I believe there's one for every single state so far. You do realize that this is a petition for Civil War... WITHIN your state right? This is a request to kill your neighbors and vice versa, not the Federal Gov't or Military. Civil Unrest starts at the neighborhood level if it comes down to that. IF the Fed takes this seriously (which they won't), the National Guard goes in first, and you and your neighbors start taking sides. There is no such thing as a 'peaceful' civil war. AND, if you are curious what happens during a civil war recently, google Darfur. You want this in your neighborhood because... you have too much ammo?

Billy, I used the word "we" loosely, as in we the government. We do not need more oil, we need less oil, less greed and less "me, me". People want to drive their Hummers, huge boats, personal ships, build humongous houses just to impress their friends, fly their personal jet to New Orleans for dinner, etc etc, etc, etc, etc. We probably waist enough energy in one year to power a country like Germany for ten years. What does a couple with zero to two children need with a 30, 40, 50,000 square foot house that they wait ten years for it to be built. The energy and natural resources for all this "STUFF, STUFF, STUFF" is insane. Then we begrudge people in third world countries because they want to own a little tiny can and use up a little oil. An African talking to an American has a dumbfounded look on his face and says "you are telling me that you have so much water that you S--T in it"? Well, it is the same with energy and pollution. Did anyone watch the documentary that I posted? There are some answers there. I will post another by Bill Gates about another energy source that will make a huge difference in the amount of carbon based fuels that we need to burn. Because our government is in the pocket of the big oil he could not get permits to build it here so he is building it is France. Government and big oil need to be forced into a divorce before anything meaningful can be accomplished in this country. Government and unions being married is a problem but it is miniscule compared to big oil having the country by the throat and squeezing the life out of us. I do not have the answers Mel but I could make some suggestions. There was not one reason to go into Iraq and there are very few reasons to go into any other country. We have treaties to protect other countries but we do not have treaties to help another country attack. There are no silver bullets but warring over oil when there are other sources emerging is insane and super expensive. If we had the money in our coffers that was spent on Iraq we would not be having half the problems that we are having now. Chasing down the people that have attacked us or are a looming threat to us is justified as in Afghanistan. But 10 years? to take out a group of people that numbers in the, what, thousands?? Then let them walk on base with a gun or bomb and kill some of us. One adviser with a large group of them to teach them how to police themselves outside the base or every swinging dick that comes on base strips till they are swinging their stuff 50 yards from the base and they are given cloths when they arrive at the fence. Everyone that tries anything else is shot and left for the buzzards. There is a solution for everything if you ask around. Speaking of solutions, has anyone watched the documentary? It starts off a little slow but when you get ten or fifteen minutes into it it is very enlightening. I will ask again and again to please watch it. If you are getting to the end of the day and you have not learned anything yet it is a good way to solve that. We need to learn something every day to keep our brains healthy and this documentary is a good way to do that. I am going to keep asking and asking because I feel that it is super important as far as helping my and your grandchildren to have a happy and prosperous life like we have had. I Googled Darfur and in the first sentence the United States is blamed for what is going on there because they did not act previously. It is a horrible thing that is happening but the UNITED STATES IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERY DAMN THING THAT HAPPENS IN THIS WORLD.
The reason that there are so many of us veterans is because we jump at the chance to go to war and are blamed for what happens if we don't. I wish for a stupid bomb that we can drop anywhere in the world. Man has been killing each other since the beginning over religion, land, power and probably a hundred other reasons but all the wars combined are not going to equal the devastation that is looming in the future.
People keep denying denying denying and will not even take a look at the proof because they are afraid that it is true and they do not want to give up anything or help to turn it around. I weep today for the babies of tomorrow. Jim

Thank you Bill. I am not net literate enough to figure that out. Haven't been on You tube. What is your take on the documentary? Since you came up with the other link you must have watched it. Jim

Agreed Jim. Point was to see what happens when there's a civil war. I haven't checked Darfur lately, apparently, they've managed to kill each other off so completely, there's not much left for other nations to help 'save', so it's fallen off the news.
This post was about a petition to Secede from the USA, not oil or fuel, which is ALSO a hugely important issue. That the subject even comes up shows how out of touch with reality some people in the USA are today.
Civil war is not something you do lightly. No family comes through a civil war intact. Darfur is recent history. The Civil War is not recent, but we know what happened. Those who survived their desire to secede lived through a pretty miserable time, losing all their lands, their farms, their wealth, and a large part of their families. It is not a good idea today either, yet here come Republicans again with another stupid idea.

Jim, haven't finished watching it yet . . .
Helen, the states are simply firing a warning shot over the bow, purely symbolic at this point. Obama's 'mandate' from the voters included the people not giving him any increases in the house or senate seats. Civil war is possible, but highly unlikely unless it comes down to a situation where enough people are left with no other options. Violence should be the last measure taken by any civilized person, and then in a defensive posture.

*Warning Shot* eh:)?
So the Republicans hate women, AND want a civil war. And you think that ANYONE else should take you guys seriously?
As for Senate seats, there's only 100 Senators and the Dem's picked up 2 more for a greater majority. The House changed character too... WOMEN got elected, from BOTH parties, and the rape baby loving Congressmen lost. The #'s didn't change, because Republican Women ran and won. Women voted for the women, regardless of party, so you didn't lose the seat numbers (unfortunately).
The House comes up for election again in 2 years... keep up the stupid ideas, lets see what happens then.

Speaking of Civil War... how familiar are you guys with battle strategy? You know, the absolute ideal combat situation is called a 'pincer'. That is, you have the enemy backed against a natural feature so they cannot retreat (Mexico), and they are slowly squashed between your 2 sides (California/Oregon/Washington, and Florida, DC, Pennsylvania, NJ, NY - the entire corridor that fought the first Civil War, with Florida added this time). It's also known as a 'hammer and anvil', and is considered an unwinnable position in battle. Both Hitler and Napoleon lost when they managed to position themselves that way. Look at a map lately? The red vs blue state map? Here: You guys in the middle, the 'nut' in the 'pincer', want a Civil War, and are petitioning for it. Um... Why? And from a strategic standpoint... um... nearly all the large bases are in the blue states, and um... all the airforce bases and sea ports right (every US sub has missiles that can hit the middle)? Really?

Yep... looks like encirclement to me..
Look at the #'s of individual votes, and that's with rampant Republican cheating. The blue are the largest population centers in the USA.

Total US population over 18 (voting age) is 206 million in the USA as of 2010.
Total Votes caste in 2012's Presidential Election = 121 million
86 million eligible voters didn't vote in 2012.
If 3 mil Republicans didn't vote, that leaves 83 million Democrats who didn't vote?

Helen, you never tell someone that they can not win and try to explain why. They may be at a disadvantage but that makes them fight that much harder. Can you say rogue sub?
Trying to sit here and fight a civil war is more than foolish. Republican and democrat brothers are probably not going to kill each other and predicting which way they will go is totally impossible. This kind of conversation is like two kids claiming that their dad can beat up the other dad and it makes no sense. We need to put our efforts into solutions not more problems. DIVIDED WE FALL Jim

Jim, anyone with eyeballs can see that, I don't need to TELL them what they can see in front of their faces:P.
We're just having a silly discussion, no one can be stupid enough to want a real civil war.
