I'm fine, Charlie:). But it occurred to me that you just can't make some people see the truth, and there comes a point where trying is a waste of time.
I had a discussion a long time ago with a woman who believed that eating health food stores rice cakes would keep her healthy. She was emaciated and splotchy, and I could not fathom how she believed she was 'healthier'. She looked like if she tripped, she'd never be able to get up again. I told her that if she didn't want to eat meat or animal products (she was vegan), at least eat vitamins. She got all mad at me for minding her business. Oh well. While it made me feel sad that a 30 year old woman thought she looked best as a wrinkly and unhealthy 70 year old, it's her life.
Anyway, Obama won, our opinions make no difference at all anymore, so why continue to tell someone they need more nutrition than rice cakes? Keep eating the rice cakes. Hrm. Now that I think of her, I wonder if she's still alive?
As for global warming, 97% of scientists have 'proven' global warming. The 1% paid for by the Republicans call it a myth (gee). Well, ok. Keep eating rice cakes, it's not like any of us can do anything about the decisions gov't makes for at least another 2 years, and even then, it's questionable that our opinions matter:).

Never said global warming isn't real - just that there isn't a damn thing we can do about it.
We can keep cutting emissions until we are back in the stone age and the weather will still be the weather...

Climate change is the normal state of the earth. I saw on TV last night that parts of the permafrost in Alaska are melting, change is real, and constant. We have had an effect on climate change, we may be just over reacting as to how much, and what the consequence will be. Thought this was an interesting read. www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2217286/Global-warming-stopped-16-years-ago-reveals-Met-Office-report-quietly-released--chart-prove-it.html The figures reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012 there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures This means that the ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996 My fav. part ; "At last week’s Conservative Party Conference, the new Energy Minister, John Hayes, promised that ‘the high-flown theories of bourgeois Left-wing academics will not override the interests of ordinary people who need fuel for heat, light and transport – energy policies, you might say, for the many, not the few’ – a pledge that has triggered fury from green activists, who fear reductions in the huge subsidies given to wind-turbine firms.

Surely five and a half tons of co2, per year (for every man, woman and child, on the planet) pumped into the atmosphere didn't cause any problems so lets not cut back on it. Hell, lets increase it just to make sure that the greenies look stupid to the cockroaches and ants that are the only living things left alive on the planet.
Same with the oceans. They are so big that it is not possible to catch all the fish out there. Where in the hell did all those fish go? They must have eaten each other because it is not possible to catch them all.
Yea, the planet has warmed and cooled many times in the past. But this time it has increased many many times faster that it ever did before. Hmmm, I wander what could have caused that?
Wow, lookie here, the graph showing the increase in warming is almost the same as the graph showing the increase in population. Isn't that funny.
The three (TRILLION) dollars spent on the Iraq war sure would come in handy right now.
Why in the hell should we have to spend our money to save the future generations? We will be dead so it does not matter.
Oh crap, I have to go because I am late for my appointment to pick up the matching his and her's Rolls-Royce. Jim

Not saying we shouldn't do what we can - responsible use of resources regarding forests, mining, fishing, etc. But if you think you can control the climate, well we humans have always been arrogant...
Jim seems you're problem is with too many people. There are several solutions for that: war, one-child controls, famine - pick one...

like any disease; nature will take care of us too, Is that how you want the human race to be remembered, not me! So much for being the most intelligent thing that ever lived. Greed has ruined our world and now that we are trained, and dependant, our master; money; which has no concience, or morals, will drive us to near extinction. Those of us that do survive will have more of a problem than the cave man did in trying to eke out an existence in a poisoned world we left behind, There will be danger in everything, the air and water which are survival itself, may not even support life as we know it. Yes; we had no part in this...........

There were three centuries of global warming when Genghis Khan took over a large amount of China....It wasn't caused by man,its what the Universe does, during curtain time periods. Its not mans fault or mans cause! We just happen to be living in the time period on which its starting to do it again!

Not saying we didn't have a part - deforestation and strip-mining being two obvious examples. What I'm saying is that the sun, the earth's rotation, the universe itself is a much bigger driver of the climate - and the 'little' things we can do amount to a hill of beans.
Dinosaurs lived on a tropical planet, ice ages came and went - and man was not involved.

Why is everyone bitching about wind-turbine subsidies but not oil subsidies? oil is going to be depleted some day but wind will be there forever.

One of these days we will not have to make a choice. It will be made for us.
Too many people is already here and so is famine. War is way to expensive (3 trillion Iraq) and with the improvements in medicine a lot less men and women are dieing.
It sounds like you want to just keep going the way we are going now. If we can deplete the oceans what makes you think that we could not be causing a speed up in global warming? I totally agree that the earth goes through warming and cooling cycles but it has been proven that it is warming many times faster than it ever has before.
Just seems to me that the way to go is to err on the side of caution. I really love my grand children and do not want them to go through severe hardship. We are probably beyond the point of no return but we should at least try to postpone it. Jim

What scientists have proven or not changes all the time - back in the 70's they were predicting the next ice age.
I don't know that we can do anything to postpone whatever the climate is going to do, but I agree in the waste not want not philosophy. The money spent in Iraq could have been much better spent here.

I'm with some of the rest of the folks, I think global warming is real but man's activities have little to do with it. Might make a tiny bit of difference but not much in the long run. Greenies have simply usurped the science to try to push their green agenda. Everyone with a lick of historical knowledge knows that a thousand years or so ago it was much warmer and triggered a golden age of agriculture in northern Europe. No industrial revolution back then so nothing to blame it on but Earth's natural cycles. The planet naturally goes through hot periods, ice ages, pluvial periods and dry periods with or without man's activities. Besides all the emerging nations like China are going to pollute the Hell out of the planet anyway. Why should we destroy our energy sources and economy just to please the followers of that jackass Al Gore who makes big bucks off the ignorance of the masses?
Again, I have a background in both biology and agriculture. You global warning paranoids should be careful what you wish for. Again as I've said many times, warmer, you can grow food in more places and have longer growing seasons to feed the planet's teaming masses. Colder ( global cooling) food growing areas are reduced and mass starvation and food wars would occur. Rejoice over global warming greenie dumbasses, it gets a bit warmer, you get to eat a little better. It gets cold enough, you gets to become food for all the starving cannibals. Ask any North Koreans how they feel about living somewhere where it's cold enough you can't grow enough food to feed your population.
Earths single main problem is overpopulation. We've exceeded the planet's carrying capacity and as a result our environment is being destroyed and our resources used up. Warmer, this is not nearly as much a problem as if it gets colder so why are you global warming cry babies complaining? Anyone who really wants to help out the planet should limit their family size so you don't suck up so many resources, require so much water, energy, real estate, food etc. Otherwise, speaking from a biological standpoint, something will eventually crash the population way before warming will anyway....Mel
PS: I know ole Iron Eyes was a fake but dang I used to like seeing him in the Rose Parade every year.
